The French music scene of the 20th century enjoyed a life of its own. The chanson culture emerged from the clubs, cafés and concert halls of Paris thanks to a bewildering variety of artists, while a musical revolution took place when singers brought politics into the mix. From smiling Sacha Distel through the controversial Gainsbourg to world-class songwriters like Brel and Brassens, this collection explores the roots of French music, the reverberations of which are still being heard and felt the world over.

Love the music
These CDs of French music were perfect for my daughter's 40th birthday party. Hitting the big 4-0, she wanted to do something special and requested a Paris theme. I purchased these and listened to them here at home to make sure they were okay. Fantastic music and will really give a great ambience to this adult Paris party! If it was a little girl's party, I wouldn't suggest them. Don't think little ones would appreciate this kind of music.
