Great for PFsense
Initially, after purchasing this item I was disappointed running only 88 Mbps on a ping test on my internal network. I played with the settings for hours and then decided to rap things up for the night. I immediately went on Amazon and requested a refund. Well sometime during the night I woke up with the thought that maybe the M.2 SATA might possibly be using the same lanes as the intel nics. So in the morning when I got up and had my coffee I put my theory to work by changing out the M.2 SATA for a regular SATA drive my 8 GB stick of memory and a quick reload of PfSense and to my surprise, I started pinging 980 to 988 Mbps. Now I have PfSense running with 2 VLANs, a local network, PFBlocker, and a Remote access VPN and still have an internal ping of 900 Mbps with 8% RAM usage and about 3 to 6% CPU usage and also cool to the touch with only 29.7 celsius. Coming from the Unifi USG this thing is a beast and works great. I would highly recommend it.Oh, is the M.2 using the same lanes as the nics? Who knows and why mess with a good thing? Right?

Great for OpnSense - Been using for over 2 years, but....
I ordered this in May 12 2020 and have been running OpnSense on this flawlessly ever since. Inside it has 1 ram slot, and 2 mSATA slots and a cable for a standard laptop SATA drive . I opted for 4GB ram and the 32GB mSATA package since that is plenty for what I needed it for. However, in the last few months the 32GB mSATA drive that came with it started reporting some SMART errors. So today I replaced it with a 64GB drive for $16. After reinstalling OpnSense and restoring the backed up config, it is again running perfect. Although, it was still running fine even with the SMART errors, I just didn't want to wait for a failure.Overall, I would say this is a great device to use for Nextgen Firewall software, or a mini PC. With more ram, and adding a more storage, it could probably be used as a media/storage server.

Great device for firewall
Very well designed device and happy with the sturdy construction, the mount frame is awesome as the whole unit disappears behind the back of my desk.Added 8GB RAM and Kingston mSATA (256GB) and took less than 5 minutes to install pfSense. The luxury of built-in 5-LAN port is awesome!! The CPU and RAM usage has been under 10% for last two days since I got it up and running.updated 2020-07-29:Still running great, actually been up 29 days in a row so far without any glitches and most devices (hardwired) in the house are clocking above 750 Mbps on speed!

Works well with pfsense and OPNsense
I was a little skeptical that things would go smoothly given the relatively low price. But I couldn't be more pleased. Did NOT seem to have an unlicensed Windows 7 as was advertised, but that's really irrelevant since you'd have to install or at least license some OS anyway. Fired up OPNsense and it immediately worked with all hardware including AES-NI, Wi-Fi, and temperature sensors. For reasons unrelated to the hardware, I switched to pfsense which also recognized and worked with all hardware without issue. Note that the Wi-Fi is 2.4GHz only. In my somewhat limited needs, heat dissipation has not been an issue - all temperatures well within reasonable limits.

Working great for pfSense
No complaints here on this mini computer. I bought this to host pfSense router/firewall software on my home network. I was really surprised how responsive it is. If I was to buy another mini computer, I'd have no issue to buy another one. I've had this one now for 4 months. No issues.

Works great!!!
Got this for my home lab. It is currently running pfsense, with suricata/snort on dual wan. cpu is never over 10%usage, heat has never gone above 35c. I got a 64gb msata drive, and a 4gb stick of ram. Runs the firewall with ease! Very stable, with over a month of uptime. At a fraction of the cost of other solutions, this is a great buy!

One fatal design flaw...
I used this as a home router for a couple years before moving to a server rack. Unfortunately, something I realized is that this design doesn't work for SOME things. When you put everything in this aluminum box, with no airflow at all, you also fail to cool the network chips. When the ambient temperature is higher than a normal house, or if it's just in a warm room, you'll quickly run into issues where the network ports will randomly reset or drop the connection. I was never able to specifically track down the issue, but after piecing together when it happened (Only during the summers, and the hotter parts of the day) and the symptoms, it seems that they fail to keep the network chipset at a reasonable temperature.Overall, it's a good router... if you aren't using it in a warmer room. I'm still using it as a fanless micro pc, but as a router it wasn't going to work out.

Failed after 2 years of home use
After 2 years of solid performance in a home setting the computer now randomly powers off. I have to unplug it (and sometimes let it set for several minutes), plug it back in, then power it back on. These crashes do not appear to be related load/thermal or any other predictable/measurable events. I've tried multiple power supplies and remove all network connections and disk (except for a Memtest disk) and it still crashes (so not a software issue). Computer seems to run fine for longer periods of time if the HDMI cable is connected to a monitor which suggests a possible internal grounding issue. My computers generally last a lot longer than two years and many of them have moving parts. This computer is entirely solid state (even the cooling is passive) so it should not have worn out so quickly under its light load. It was good while it lasted but computers are too expensive to replace constantly and this one did not live up to reasonable standards.Decent computer but the quality and reliability are lacking - those are critical features in a firewall device unfortunately.
