Story sails straight into fun
Joseph Wambaugh can turn a phrase and develop strong images that put the reader solidly in the action. Setting this tale in picturesque San Diego among the sailing royalty and the scum of the darker side of the wharf will keep the reader sailing through the whole story, looking forward to, but dreading the finish line.

Trpical Joseph Wambaugh Book
Have been reading Jos. Wambaugh since he was first published. Enjoy all of his books. This is very typical of his later style. It's a lite read, you don't have to think much about it. Just enjoyit.

FLOATERS did NOT age well.
Some novels are interesting when they’re first released because they deal with a contemporary event that’s fresh in the reader’s mind. Unfortunately, these novels do NOT age well as reader’s forget the significance of the event or never heard of the event. Such is the case with FLOATERS.I remembered all the hoopla, intrigue, spying, etc. surrounding Dennis Conner and the America’s Cup. The news coverage was intense. It’s against this background that Joseph Wambaugh based his novel FLOATERS. If you don’t remember, don’t know, or don’t care about sailing and the America’s Cup, FLOATERS will probably be of no interest to you even though it’s a cop novel. The first 10-11 chapters or 2/3 of the novel is a bit slow. The last 1/3 is more interesting.FLOATER is NOT one of the best novels by Joseph Wambaugh, but you might find it appealing if you have an interest in sailing and/or the America’s Cup.

Wambaugh does it again!
Joseph Wambaugh is truly a master of the police procedural. Brilliant story that gets right into the minds of both cops and robbers like no other writer today. Moving a bit south from his usual haunts in LA, the San Diego cops he writes about are as complex and charismatic as any from his past writings. Add in the genuine knowledge about the America's Cup that very few of us landlubbers know about and you have a first-class page turner that will take you on a truly eventful journey.

Racing Cup Intrigue
A San Diego mix of cops and sailors and an international event make for a fast moving complex story covering the social spectrum. The tongue-in-Cheek style keeps the police work interesting and believable and in the style expected.

It floated my boat......I really enjoyed it
Loved the life like characters and the Wambaugh humour........an interesting unusual and twisting plot peppered with his wonderful funny anecdotes..All his characters have a story... Reminded me of his earlier work . A very mature excitingly paced book with fascinating insights to the world of an obscure sport and those who can afford to indulge in it. A well crafted ending. If you like Wambaugh I don't think you can go wrong with this one.
