mental health awareness
A beautiful story about human frailty and how society works to do what is supposed to be the best for people. Some good, some not as good. Reads almost like diary entries from a third person perspective.

Teen view of foster care and family separation
At 12 years old, Scarlet cares for her autistic brother and severely depressed mother. This tenuous situation leads to her and her brother to foster care, a situation that separates them all and initiates Scarlet's attempt to reunite them. The writing is done from Scarlet's perspective, guiding the reader through an empathetic journey that makes her actions and "acting out" understandable and logical. This unique and much needed perspective is refreshing and a true gift from the author for anyone, especially those with foster children in their lives.

endearing story
Scarlet Ibis:Sensitively written book which enables you to take the place of the main character, who as a 12 year old girl in care desperately tries to look after her younger brother. An endearing story which makes you want to read it in one go. I think it is intended for children yet gives insites into asbergers that are easy to understand for anyone. A courageous and in no way pitiful sister or brother. Their foster family is balanced and loving. This a warming story.

A story for adults and children to enjoy
A poignant and rather sad story that will probably make you think about your own family relationships and how you relate to others. Well written and a believable storyline. Will look forward to reading another of Gill Lewis' books and would recommend this one without hesitation.

A good read
I enjoyed this book, the story kept my full attention throughout. I felt that the ending was a little rushed but it didn't stop my over all feelings of the book being positive. It was also very thought-provoking.
