New York Dead: The First Stone Barrington Novel (Stone Barrington, 1)

His first is better than his last!
This is my third Stone Barrington novel. I read his latest, "Hit List", first, gave it 2 stars because of a very weak plot and a multitude of grammatical and punctuation errors. I read "Stealth" next, 3 stars, slightly better plot. I decided to start at the beginning, and I really enjoyed this book. I liked Stone in this novel; I didn't like him in the other two. This book has an interesting plot line, personal pathos, well-defined characters and is well written. I'll move on to #2 next. A final comment: in the other two books, the "Authors Note" at the end was a self-serving, impersonal, robotic recitation of who to contact if you wanted something, but nothing about who helped him write/publish the novel. In "New York Dead", the "Acknowledgement" section thanks everyone for their roles; a much more personal response.

Late but I made it
I can't imagine more than about 10 people. Still need a review on this book series. I feel like one of the last people in the world that did not know about it! Anyway, where do I begin. Written In the late '90s and embodies, all the energy and drama and dark pleasures in New York City held during that time frame. The writing is gritty and something of a lost art. The antagonist reminds me (in presence at least) of Lucas Davenport of the prey series. Needless to say, I'm thoroughly excited for the next 40 plus books!

Rereading because Stuart Woods books are page turners
I’ve been a Stuart Woods fan since I bought a copy of “White Cargo” to fill my time on a transcontinental flight. I like that he grabs you and pulls you in with good characters. I will be the first to admit there are some technical issues, but facts, like those concerning airplanes in his other books, keep him enjoyable. So overlook that he doesn’t seem to have a concordance to keep his characters straight, but enjoy Stone Barrington and other characters because they are a good read.

A Good Book for People that like Action
I’ve read many Stuart Woods books. I like the Stone Barrington one’s best. This is the first Stone Barrington Book. It told me the beginnings of his practice and relationship with Dino.

Lots And Lots of Action...hard to stop and go to sleep!
The story started slightly slowly, ramped up and hooked me.Beginning of series starring Stone Barrington. Cop turned...detective turned lawyer. Lots of twists and turns kept my interest and Woods connected them all in the end. Lots of sex scenes that I failed to realize immediately were yet another trail leading to the conclusion.

Very entertaining!
I've been a fan of Stuart Wood's Stone Barrington books for a long time. I realized that I'd missed this one completely. What a treat since this book sets up the background for the entire series. And it is a really good read to boot! I'll be 'reading a few more of the early one's even though I think I've read all of them at least once. Here's to a great book and an even greater series.

Partial fault
I wish to report a partial fault in the product. The pages from 29 to 64 are not in order: after page 28 comes page 31-32, then 29-30, then 33-34, then 37-38, then 35-36 and so on, making necessary to go backwards and forward to follow the plot. Please feel free to report this to Fontana.

Beach reading
Average beach reading with some interesting twist and turns deserving three stars. But the ending is so predictable and the numerous sexual happenings are of no interest whatsoever.
