Works for what we needed.
We've been using it for about 3 months now and it's been working well. We used it to mux the input from a TV, Playstation, and XBox into an old receiver which only had one optical and no HDM inputs. No issue with signal/audio stability. Audio quality isn't an issue since it's a digital signal. I do wish it could be turned on/off without having to rely on the remote. There's a manual button to switch inputs, but not power off. It would've been even better if the device didn't require power at all, but not sure if that's possible without going with a mechanical switch. Unfortunately, the reviews indicate the mechanical switchers tend to wear out and fail.

Worked fine for three days then ceased to function.
Worked fine for three days and then failed (no power, no sound output). I was using this to connect various items to my Pioneer soundbase via TOSLINK and everything was fine but then the unit ceased to operate. Overall this would have been an inexpensive and convenient solution to my needs but since it quit working so soon, I am concerned about this product's quality so I am using another more robust solution now. Maybe mine was just defective so for functionality, when it worked, it is an acceptable solution.

This little guys works great for my PS4 and Xbox 360. (I have 3x1 Switcher)
EDIT!: My review is for the 3x1 switch, I forgot originally to specify which product exactly I ordered. I got the 3X1 switch with remote.I recently got a PS4, and found myself with two devices with TOSLINK out while my DD 5.1 surround sound only has 1 slot to plug stuff in. For a couple weeks I was manually yanking and swaping the TOSLINK cable on my 360 and PS4 whenever I wanted to switch systems. So I bought this switcher and a couple extra TOSLINK cables to be able to have everything hooked up without constantly swapping cables behind my TV and Surround Sound system. It took me just a minute to hook everything up and now my Xbox 360 and PS4 work great with this switch. My DD 5.1 sound is coming through on all 5 speakers and subwoofer just fine, everything works great and sounds crystal clear whether directly connecting or using this switch. So I'm very happy with it since it delivers sound without quality loss, at least so far as I can tell.It also came with a mini-remote and sensor. The switch itself is hidden behind my TV, and the sensor pokes out of the side of my TV and that is what you aim the remote at. It's nice to use the remote, I wish this had auto detect, but the remote works fine.I did look at some of the cheaper "manual switch" ones where it has a big dial you physically turn. But from what I read they tend to break or deliver poorer sound. I wanted one where you switch ports digitally, so thats why I tried this more expensive one with the mini remote. So, what else can I say? It's a nice little plug and play TOSLINK switch... As long as it doesnt break and it lasts a while... I say 5 stars.

Remote doesnt work for S#!%.
This thing does the job but the remote it comes with is horrible. Have to walk up the the remote receiver (about an inch from it) and point it directly into it to have the thing switch channels. This might not be a problem for some people but I find it extremely annoying when switching between my PS3 and PS4. Which I do a lot. This is the year 2014 right? Thought remote technology would have been perfected by now. Rolling my eyes.

Choppy audio introduced with BluRay player.
Worked as designed. Needed two devices(BR player and WD LIVE) to send audio to my receiver. The total length of the in and out cables 6ft. The WD Live worked perfectly but the BR player had choppy audio. Tried other cables and different ports on the switch. Same results. I would give the switch four or better stars but in my case I just couldn't use it.

Handy little device, works perfectly.
The challenge in our family room was that we have three digital audio devices, all trying to hook up to a one Sound Bar that only has a single optical audio input. Before this device, you either had to settle for using RCA cables to connect sound from two of these devices, or even worse, you had to climb to the Sound Bar and swtich the Fiber Optic cable out depending on which device you wanted to hear from. I'm waaayyy too lazy for that, and the kids aren't old enough to do it for me, so I had to find a better way. This devices is the perfect solution. It's very small, a 9 square inch footprint and easy to tuck away behind the TV. With the IR sensor extension, it is still easy for it's little remote control to make the switch. Although I am not a fan of yet another remote control, it is still beteer than having to hop up and go to the entertainment center everytime and push a button of flip a switch. This swticher has worked seamlessly and I can detect no decrease in audio quality between using it versus going without. A paltry sum for increased convenience; worth every penny!

First - the unit did not work, the remote would not switch inputs. Tested the battery - that was not the problem. Even if the switch worked as described - I would have most likely returned it anyway. Bad design - using all 3 inputs + remote sensor + output cable leaves you with cables coming out of all four sides and an unsightly mess.

Just what I needed, love it!!
This little gem works perfect. I have a Sonos Playbar with Sub and Play 1 surround speakers with only one optical input on the playbar. That input comes from my Panasonic TV which is great when I'm watching broadcast TV via my outdoor antenna. However when I watch Apple TV or Blu Ray movies the output from those devices go to the TV via HDMI and the TV then outputs the sound in 2 channel mode to the Playbar, The Playbar automatically converts some of the sound to the surround speakers, but I don't get true 5.1 channel surround. Now with this switching device I can take the three Toslink digital outputs from my TV, Blu Ray and Apple TV connect them to the switcher and then select the input on the switch to output that device to the Playbar. Wow the difference is phenomenal, surround sound from all three devices. The switcher is smaller than I thought it would be, comes with a nice little remote that works perfect. I positioned the switch where I can see the green LED's, I can see the light when powered on and watch the lights switch to different inputs. Works perfect.
