review based on this being a $12.00 knife
Balance is right, fairly sharp, feels great and weight is excellent for it's size. You can tell it is in your hand. Between the Choil and scales there is a poorly detailed area that leaves an oval shaped "(" on the side of the choil where it should be flush to the scale. Point the blade up with the edge toward you and where the choile and scales meet you would expect to see a T shape. Mine actually has the top of the T angled about 25 degrees off plumb through the knife. There is also a repaired area where the lanyard liner was added, like a piece of wood flaked off and was buffed out after. The Handle is smooth and rivets are flush with surface. I went back and forth between 4 and 5 stars but settled on 5 because I really don't care about cosmetics and structurally it feels and seems sound. If you are not looking too close it actually is a sweet looking knife. The Sheath is not the best but it seems semi functional. I had an old leather sheath I swapped out with almost a perfect fit. I was trying this sheath paired with a really, really cheap knife. I cut a one inch gash along the spine, in the new sheath without even feeling it. I am not sure I would want this sheath on my hip if I slipped or tripped in a camp site. This is a value at this price point that you will feel good about when the day is done.5/12/14 so I bought a second knife and the handle was worse than the first. It had the same previous flaws plus The wood was cracked around the lanyard insert to the edge. Thought about sending it back but decided to see what I could do with it. I wrapped it with duct tape and then with a simple spiral of paracord. It feels so good that I made a sheath for it and I be darned if I don't like it as much as any other knife I own.

Inexpensive, solid construction, I recommend it for car kits, trail bags, emergency hand-out kits, etc.
Nice, handy-sized camping knife. I have no illusions that this is as tough as a BK-2, or as versatile as a SK-5. Fit and finish are about a 7 on a 10 scale. However, I'm not auditioning for "Alone" with this thing, it's a backup's backup, in a car kit. May never use it at all. Do you want to stick an Ontario Blackbird or a Pathfinder knife in a box under the back seat?Heck, the sheath is worth about what I paid for the whole thing ($10.63). Yeah, the bolsters are a tiny bit off, and the handle profile is a little blockier than I prefer, but so what! The choil in the bolster gives a rock-solid rest to your index finger to keep it south of the cutting edge. The edge itself came usable, and it dressed to very sharp in just a few minutes. Regardless of my doubts, it is full tang and has a lanyard hole near the butt. It's corrosion resistant steel, which is perfect for a car bag that doesn't get out in the light very often.Cons: despite the full tang, I would not want to do any batoning with this knife -- both because the strength of the blade is unknown, and because hollow-grind blades are more subject to binding and fracturing if you don't pull it out carefully;Pros: Dude, it's $11 for a 4-1/2" bladed, full tang knife, in a sheath! If all I ever use it for is to cut some twine for a truck bed tie-down, it's worth it.

Sloppy but solid
I have bought about 6 of these over the years since 2013 as gifts or for myself and they are a good general purpose knife at a cheap price but there is no quality control at all. Some of these knives look great and have no flaws while others are put together very sloppily and there's gaps between the pakkawood handle scales, gaps between the bolsters and the tang, off center grind and/or dull tip or there is chips in the handle scales near the brass pins. The handle scales themselves also range from slim and rounded to thick and blocky. So be aware you likely won't get one that is immaculate and it may need some work to fix an off center grind, dull tip, or may need to put super glue in the gaps behind the handle scales. Cheap as they are and imperfect as they are they are still worth it and I have never had one fall apart on me. I have been using one of these since 2013 and it's taken a beating but it still works great and it's one of my main knives to use since I'd rather abuse a $10 blade instead of a knife I paid $50+ for. Sheath is not bad for the price either even though it's cheap nylon I have seen much worse. So yeah, it's clearly not a high end, super heavy duty knife at $10 but it gets the job done.

I used to modify it to see what a more expensive knife I was after would be like. This is a nice heavy duty knife
What I expected for the money. I used to modify it to see what a more expensive knife I was after would be like. This is a nice heavy duty knife, and I'm glad I bought it. It's now a back-up and ready if needed.

great budget knife
recently purchased a number of knives with a very specific criteria. no "tactical", no paracord, no giant bowie, no folders, just a nice sized, natural handle bush knife, for CHEAP. all were in the $10-16 range. this was one of them.to be honest, not the best knife made. no, it wont contend with a $300 custom knife, but for under $20 this is a lot of knife. nice fit and finish, came sharp, didnt really punish them, but in the limited amount of trials i gave the blade seemed to hold a decent edge. at the end of the day, id take 20 of these over one $300 knife hands down. actually, id just get one and spend the other $285 on something else.and for the record. im giving this same review to all 8 of the knives i purchased for this "experiment". all seemed to hold edges well, some better than others, the fit and finish was better on some than on others, but easily acceptable on all, and all well worth the few dollars they cost.
