the absolute best pipe thread sealer
I have used this pipe thread sealer for over 40 years. One nice thing is it stays playable so you can take loose the fitting if necessary. A bit of caution don't get it on cloths as its about impossible to wash out

This is the stuff the pros yes!
I was introduced to Rectorseal by a relative 30 years ago. This relative also happened to be a professional pipe fitter who used this product in the trade. I have used nothing but Rectorseal ever since and never been disappointed.

Don't bother with teflon tape
This stuff works great, and is easier to use than tape if you ask me. I know you can get probably 8 rolls of teflon tape for the price of 1 bottle, but one bottle of this thread sealant goes pretty darn far. Not only that, it works much better than teflon tape. I recently re-plumbed a huge amount of pipe in my basement (total re-plumb of the house). I used this on probably a half dozen threaded applications, and no problems. Teflon tape can be a bit flaky if you ask me (works most of the time, but sometimes it leaks if the tape gets mangled on tight threads). This stuff does in fact set, but it takes at least a few days. Seems to take probably 2-3 days or so from experience. As for the claims of immediate pressurization being OK - perfectly fine. I painted the threads, connected them together. Turned water service on, no leaks. You can find this at Lowe's in my area, but not at HD for some reason. At the local store, 7.99$ for 4 oz bottle.Read the instructions carefully, this thread sealant works on anything BUT chlorinated applications. This means NO CPVC.Otherwise, it works for Iron pipe, Steel, PVC, Copper. If you ask me, not having to pull apart threaded joints and fix leaks is well worth the extra cost. I haven't had this fail me once.
