Product description There was such a magic on the screen in 1995 when the people at Pixar came up with the first fully computer-animated film, Toy Story. Their second feature film, A Bug's Life, may miss the bull's-eye but Pixar's target is so lofty, it's har Set Contains: Codirector Andrew Stanton warmly calls this collector's edition of A Bug's Life the "Super Genius" edition (referring to another animated delight, Wile E. Coyote). That's a better title, since this double DVD set is never as stuffy and boring as many collector's editions. On the second disc, which is jam-packed with details on how the movie was made, there isn't a single boring snippet. There must be a creed at Pixar Animation Studios dictating everything must be fun. When Stanton, director John Lasseter, or any technician comes onscreen, there are jokes, camera muggings, and controlled insanity. But there's a method to their madness. For example, the storyboarding process--sketching out the entire picture before cameras roll--isn't just explained; it's storyboarded itself. Another highlight is an early presentation of the film's subject matter that takes on the flavor of a poorly dubbed Japanese film of the '60s. There's also a wonderful process using the DVD format's rarely used angle feature that allows the viewer to go between pencil sketches, color drawings, and the finished project to see how the art progresses to the screen. The film, presented here in both widescreen and recomposed full-frame (the latter also explained on the disc), is the first DVD created by a digital source for the purest presentation possible. Whatever the presentation, this "Super Genius" edition certainly gives one pause to consider what super geniuses the folks at Pixar truly are. --Doug Thomas

One of the Best
This was when animation shined! The characters, setting and storyline makes it the perfect all around family movie. Some of the adult like humor is funny enough for the adults but not innappropriate for kids to hear. So glad to share this with my children for movie night!

Great movie for kids and adults
Got this for my Granddaughter for Christmas, the kids sent me a video of her reaction the first time she watched it which was very funny since her Mom is scared of any bug for no good reason. At first she was hesitant until the bugs did something funny (which they all do) and now she isn't afraid of bugs and looking for them *all* the time and when she sees one, she'll say what she thinks it is from the movie then start watching it. She's 2 1/2 yrs old so this is a good time to learn about all things in life. Now both my Granddaughter and Daughter in Law are seeing "bugs" in a different way which is a good thing, didn't see that coming!

What’s not to love about an underdog and circuses.
What’s not to love about an underdog and circuses.I am a full grown adult but I still love my cartoons and love watching movies that are animated. I love the story I loved the characters and it’s a lot of fun to escape from reality and go someplace where the little people live.

Already Overlooked Masterpiece
The ants on Ant Island are putting the finishing touches on their annual offering to the grasshoppers, a payment for leaving them alone and keeping them safe from other bugs. Princess Atta is extremely nervous as this is her first year in charge. Things don't go as planned when Flik accidentally knocks all the food into the water. As a way to get rid of him while they met the increased demands, the colony sends him off to find warrior bugs to protect them. Through a series of mistakes, he finds a bunch of disgraced circus performers instead. Will they find a way to protect the colony? This movie already seems to be delegated to the bottom of Pixar's list of movies, which is a real shame. As with all their movies, it's wonderful. The action keeps up at a brisk pace, the characters are likeable, the voice talent is wonderful, and there are plenty of laughs for everyone. This is also the first of their movies to feature outtakes. The animation does date the movie a little. The bugs look a little plasticy. However, some of the effects are wonderful, especially the fog and rain. This was the first of Pixar's movies to be released on DVD. The picture clarity and sound were news worthy at the time because it was the first movie released directly from the digital source. That clarity still holds up today. They went all out with the extras, featuring an informative audio commentary, and all the behind the scenes info you could want. I especially liked looking at the original story idea and seeing the wide to full screen comparisons.Don't get so caught up in the hype around their other movies that you over look this one. It's just as great a story for kids of all ages as anything Pixar has put out to date.

Great movie!
A Bug’s Life never gets old! 👍🏼 The movie is great and makes for a perfect collection of those classic Disney movies. I would recommend this for kids and families. I’m glad they had it in 4K; its worked/played great with no problem. I like how I can stream it anywhere I go and not worry about having stacks of movies at home. Convenient :)

Test of time: Passed
Still a great movie 22 years later. Regarding the graphics, I work in the digital media industry and have pretty high standards, and it is definitely worth watching in 4K. I couldn't believe that the graphics are 22 years old. Pixar blows my mind sometimes!
