Recommended for P&P fans as well as those looking for a light, female-led whodunit.
“Do you purposefully misunderstand everything I say, Miss Bennet?”“Do you purposefully overlook all inconvenient truths, Mr. Darcy?”When sixteen year old Lizzie Bennet hears about a scandalous society murder, she sees an opportunity to prove herself as a solicitor by solving the case and ensuring justice is served. Except the man accused of the crime already has a lawyer on his side: Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy, the stern young heir to the prestigious Pemberley Associates law firm.Lizzie is determined to solve the murder before Darcy can so that she can show the world that a woman can be just as good as a man. (The fact that Darcy is an infuriating snob doesn’t help.) But there’s still a killer on the loose, and as the case gets more complicated, Lizzie and Darcy may have to start working together to avoid becoming the next victims themselves.“My, how refreshing. A man who urges me to be careful rather than tells me to stop meddling.”I love seeing threads of a base idea woven into an entirely new tale. Pride and Premeditation is now one of my favorite retellings to date and I'd recommend it to even those outside of the Pride and Prejudice circle...being familiar with the story not required as it holds itself up on its own.My only complaint was I didn't get the usual insulting love confession that Darcy is known for but that's only because it's one of my favorites. Super minor, really.I can't wait to see what else Price does.Recommended for P&P fans as well as those looking for a light, female-led whodunit.

If you are a lover of Pride & Prejudice, then you need to pick up Pride & Premeditation!
If you are a lover of Pride & Prejudice, then you need to pick up Pride & Premeditation!I have read many a P&P retellings in my day and let me just tell you that not everyone can capture the spirit of Jane Austen. Not only does Tirzah Price do just that, but she also used a story that I know like that back of my hand and gave it new life!Elizabeth Bennett is hands down one of my all time favorite characters and that didn’t change in this version.Lizzie wants to prove to her father that she is capable of being a barrister in a time when women weren’t even allowed in court. When she hears that Mr. Bingley has been accused of murder she knows this is her chance, but of course Mr. Darcy beats her to it. And let the shenanigans begin!I had such a great time reading this book and I didn’t want it end. Who would have known that I needed a P&P murder mystery?!

A few historical liberties allow Elizabeth Bennet to strive for a feminist dream
This story presumes a younger Elizabeth and Darcy, but they still oppose one another through misunderstandings. Other Bennet family members are de-emphasized, while Darcy is no relation to the de Bourghs, with his father being a barrister and head of a prominent legal firm.Elizabeth bumbles around but eventually figures out one of the villains, entrapping him to identify the evil mastermind who is framing Bingley for murder.I found the mystery of only mild interest, and the characters equally so. I have little interest in reading the sequel(s), and will probably just delete this story from my Kindle.

Such a good book!
This book was just so amazing!Highlights:- Pride and Prejudice retelling- enemies-to-lovers- YA murder mystery- slightly more modern take on the Regency era- strong female MC- “trapped in a closet together” tropePride and Prejudice has always been one of my favorite love stories, so when I heard about this book, I just HAD to read it!This book had much more of a YA feel than the original P&P story. I think part of that has to do with the fact that the characters are younger than in the original story. One thing I really liked is that Lizzie seems even more headstrong and fiery in this retelling. She speaks her mind more and isn’t afraid to take chances, which I completely admire. In fact, for most of the book, it was more about Lizzie trying to prove herself and less about her relationship with Darcy. But that relationship did come in at some point and it didn’t disappoint. One thing I really want to say is I think the author did an amazing job of staying true to the personalities of the characters while still giving this story new life. Also, the killer was so unexpected! Normally I am able to guess it pretty early on, but not with this book. I loved it!I definitely recommend this book to P&P fans, mystery fans, and regency fans! And if you love books with strong women proving men wrong, this is the one for you!

Love me ANOTHER version of this classic!
I love that this story has been reimaginedin so many wonderful forms. This book mixed my love for Austen and detective stories. And I loved that the author mixed up the respectabilities of the characters. Traditional good guys as villains is amazing.

Inventive and Fun
3.5 out of 5 wine glasses. An inventive and fun retelling of Pride and Prejudice. I'm interested to see how the series will continue!

So much fun!
This was a thorough delight to read!!! I only wish it could have been longer to see how Lizzie and Darcy progress but even though there are no love declarations in this novel the mutual respect, longing, and affection is clear. I really loved the plot and all of the twists and turns. Truly, so much fun!

Barely a Jane Austen connection
Other than using Jane Austen's characters from Pride and Prejudice, there is no connection to the original story. The Bennets live in London, Mr. Bennet is a lawyer and Elizabeth wants to work with her father. Jane and the other girls barely feature in the book. The Bingleys, Hursts, Wickham, Collins, Charlotte and Lady Catherine are there but in very different roles. The author says herself (in the postface) that there were no female lawyers until the late 19th century, so why didn't she change the dates of the story while she changed everything else. The story itself was engaging but I found myself resenting the fact that the author used JA to get readers who were looking for a Pride and Prejudice variation.

Solid retelling with some delightful twists
I relly enjoyed the Lizzie-Darcy dynamic. Some of the characters were really close to the originals. Others were a bit altered to fit the story (I loved Gorgiana in this version) but sadly some were far off from the original, mainly Mr. Bennett. He was very stern and strict (or at least he came across that way) and I could find little of his delightful character from the original. I really enjoyed the whole mystery/conspiracy aspect (although I did figure out parts of it quite early). So if you like the original or are a fan of the YA-murder-mystery genre you should read this book.
