Best pair owned by far
Well worth the price! Fitted like a glove straight out of the box.I'm size 9. However, I ordered size 9.5 as I wear thick wool socks in my hunts - perfect fit!Well made, excellent ankle support and waterproof. Get the Kenetrek boot wax; a must!

Kenetrek 1000 gram boots
Just completed hunts in Colorado and Kyrgyzstan.Conditions ranged from 2.5 consecutive days of drenching downpour to several days of horseback riding and hiking and long periods of sitting or standing in snow at 14500feet with temperatures of -10 F to 30F. Feet stayed warm and dry. Treat boots well with waterproofing gel......Kenetreks brand works well but twice the price of competition......including treating under the lace eyelets. Comfortable right out of the box;I believe the 30 mile recommended break in. Great boots.

Very Nice Boots!
Bought these for hiking in the mountains on cold, cold days. Very comfortable. Really didn't need breaking in and kept my feet warm. Perfect.

Warm and Comfortable
My husband says these are the best boots he has ever owned! He tells everyone they should have a pair. He was advised to order a half size larger than his normal shoe. The boots fit just right.

These might be factory seconds . . .
Review of boots at the end vis-a-vis what I finally went with.Probably the most frustrating experience with Amazon I've had. Ordered these with a 30% discount. They came recommended by a personal acquaintance who uses the Mountain Extreme 400s elk/deer hunting in the mountains of Montana. No complaints from him, and I've watched him walk through streams with a pack, etc. When the boots arrived, they looked to be the good, high quality boots I expected. On closer inspection, I noticed a small separation between the sole and the boot, up by the toe of the right foot. Would it have made a difference or failed? Who knows . . . but at the price, I wanted perfect brand new boots. I returned them. Amazon did not have my size in stock to replace it with, so I had to go for the refund.I tried ordering the same Kenetreks from another online retailer, only to find out several days later that they were backordered. Cancelled that order. All of the sudden Amazon had my size back in stock. I thought it was odd that a few days after returning mine my size would show back up in stock. I thought surely Amazon wouldn't try to resell boots returned as defective. The 30% off deal had since expired . . . hunting trip was drawing closer and I wanted to start breaking them in, so I ponied up full price for these and expedited shipping. Opened the box? Same pair. The separation was still there. I was very frustrated to say the least. I find it hard to believe that the defect would have made it past quality control, which causes me to pose the question if this lot of boots from this retailer are factory seconds? I see my size is back in stock . . . If you are a size 13, check the right big toe and look for separation and a blemish. I've worn those boots before (twice!), but only for a minute or two, and on carpet. The boots themselves:Overall, they appear to be good high quality boots that you would expect for the price. I ended up going to a local Cabelas and purchasing their Meindl "Perfekt™" Extreme 400s . . . at one point, I had both boots in my home and had the opportunity to compare. Both are nubuck leather that will require a wax (Kenetrek does ship a tiny little jar of their house brand of wax). The Meindl's are an all leather boot, the Kenetreks have a patch of cordura-type nylon where the tongue bends to go up the leg. I'm still in the process of breaking in my Meindls, but they are prone to pinching at that point. While I didn't wear the Kenetreks very long (and again, only indoors on carpet), I wonder if this this nylon part of the tongue helps prevent that pinch? Maybe an owner can comment on that point . . . The leather of the Kenetreks looked to be marginally thicker than the Meindls. The rubber rand on the Kenetreks is a little thicker and comes up the toe a little but further than the Meindls. Lacing hardware (eyes) on the Kenetreks looked to be a little more robust than the Meindls, but I have yet to have any issues or failures with the Meindls.Kenetrek seems to have their own thing going on versus other boots. Meindl (and everyone else) has "GoreTex," Kenetrek has "WindTex." Meindl (and everyone else) has a "Vibram" sole, Kenetrek has their own sole. I don't know if these differences make the premium one pays worth it or not. When I had both boots at home, I had the opportunity to feel how each fit my foot. I felt my heel slide just a little bit in the Kenetreks. Could be my foot, could have been the sock, etc. Didn't slip in the Meindls. I also felt I could cinch the Meindls down a little tighter than Kenetreks, but again this could be attributed to the uniqueness of my foot. I went with the Meindls for those reasons (in addition to the defective product and customer service fiasco). So, I'm hating on Amazon pretty hard here with the rating, but the Kenetreks are 4-5 star boots. I think there are 4-5 star boots for less money than these though . . . The low rating is for Amazon's handling of the issue and to make you aware of this should you decide to go this route. In my opinion, save yourself the trouble and find a store that carries them. Go in, try on a few pairs, and walk out with what fits you best. A couple of weeks of break-in time was spent filling out return forms and making trips to the post office.
