Solid Wii 3rd Person Shooter
This is a straight port of the PC/PS2 title so if you've played either you will not find anything new.The Wiimote works fine for this 3rd person shooter. If you play on the Wii-you are already accustom to the Wii controllers and will find they translate perfectly well. The graphics are better than the PS2 and the sound is almost identical. This may be the only pure 3rd person shooter available for the Wii with a decent scifi story, cover system and interesting postmortem squadmate tactics. It is certainly worth adding to one's collection.

It's no RE4....
First off, this is a great game that works well with the Wii. The controls are very simple to learn, and the story is great too. I bought mine used at GameStop and it didn't have the instruction booklet but I still learned the controls easily. It even gives you hints during the first few missions to help you learn them. The missions are awesome, as are the environments they take place in. The are a number of different weapons to use and upgrade and they each have their own unique specialness. The graphics are great for a Wii game, and if you like third person shooters, then I have to put this right up there next to Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition.I think the only issue I have with this game, is that you cannot save until the mission is over. Some of the missions wound up taking me about an hour to complete, so I would have to wait until then to stop playing and save. Sometimes I'm not in the mood to play for an hour and just want to get a quick 30 minutes in. I do take my time and try to play as safe as possible and I also try to collect everything. It does have checkpoints every so often, so if you die, you don't have to reply alot - which is nice. But with that said, the game moves along well and is fun to play.If you like RE4, then I would definitely check this out. It's fun, cheap, and can be challenging at times - even on easy. I have played all COD games, Star Wars The Force Unleashed, Cursed Mountain, Dead Space Extraction, Dead Rising Shop Till You Drop, GoldenEye, Quantum Of Solace, Red Steel, Red Steel 2, The Conduit, and No More Heroes. So if you like some/all of these games, then there is a good chance you will like this too. This game does not get the props it is due and not many people have heard of this game. So if you are a Wii gamer like I am, you need pick this up. You shouldn't be disappointed. Enjoy!!

Fun, but flawed
I had been looking forward to getting this title for the Wii. It was released months earlier in Europe, and was recently released in the United States for the Wii. This game is a port from the PS2/Xbox, so for those who have the title on that system, this probably is not worth a purchase. Rogue Trooper is a "3rd person shooter" which attempts to utilize the Wiimote motion controls. This presents the first flaw of the game however. While turning Rogue is relatively easy (pointing the Wiimote to either edge of the screen) and moving him is straightforward as well (the joystick on the nunchuck), a few of the combat-oriented controls are sketchy. First, grenade throwing relies on flicking the nunchuck, and aiming grenades relies on tilting the nunchuck upwards -- doing this halts your characters movement and gives you a highlighted arc showing the path your grenade will take through the air. Needless to say, unintentionally throwing grenades in tight quarters, or unintentionally aiming grenade trajectories in the middle of a heated fire-fight is annoying. Also, when in sniper mode, twisting the Wiimote is supposed to allow one to zoom in or out, but it can be dodgy and does not always seem to work. I should mention that you can adjust the sensitivity of your Wiimote, so you can adjust how quickly Rogue will turn when you point to the edges of the screen, which is a nice feature. Unfortunately, they did not provide this option for the nunchuck. The graphics are good. They're not on par with Dead Space Extraction but they can hold their own. There are a lot of additional background segments which help move the story along nicely, and the voice acting is very well done. If one is unfamiliar with the comic book, there is nothing to worry about, because there is an encyclopedia "extra" which will highlight major elements of the comic and characters. These extras are unlocked as the player completes certain missions and hits certain standards of play (e.g., salvaging a certain number of points). Aside from grenade issues, combat is exciting. Rogue has several options available to him to take on enemies at a distance, in close quarters, hand to hand, and stealth-wise. His fallen compatriots (whose biochips he has incorporated into his equipment) help him with tasks and survival. Sometimes they'll chime in during combat or to drop hints on how to proceed. Enemy AI is very well done, and when you're hiding they'll go so far as to taunt you. On normal setting (the easiest setting), the enemy provides a decent challenge. Gameplay is exciting, and the game is certainly fun (4 star fun). There is no online element to the game which is a bit disappointing, as this game online would have been spectacular. Alas, it is the final drawback to a game that could have had awesome potential, which is why overall it only warrants 3 stars. The game overall is a solid piece of work and will provide a person who plays it with a good challenge and a few hours of intense combat action. Given that this game came in at a relatively low price for Wii releases, it is definitely worth a purchase now, or later when the price drops even further.
