STORYTIME TOYS Farm Playset with Barn, Animals, Barnyard, Crops, Chicken Coop and Storybook

The Good: This was a birthday gift for my 3 year old daughter who is fairly gentle with her toys. To be honest, I think I like it more than she does but she's 3 so clearly she can't appreciate the genius of this toy yet. I can't get over how cute and well detailed the pieces are. Just adorable! Kids with big imaginations should have hours and hours of fun. The book that comes with it is well written & illustrated and is my daughter's favorite part of the kit right now.The Bad: Some might find the assembly tedious, but I enjoyed it. I thought it was made of wood but it's foam covered on each side by hard stickers which unfortunately can be peeled off without too much trouble, and they also sometimes get stuck in the assembly holes, so delicate handling is a must. I definitely don't think this would stand up to repeated assembly, especially by a child (the foam can bend and some of the holes were a tight fit from the get-go). We keep ours assembled on a shelf.

I ordered this for my son for Christmas and waited in anticipation to see him playing with it because he is into both farms and puzzles. There are so many great things about this set. First, I love that it engages kids in both building and fantasy play. I love the literacy component too, even though it is a simple story. The suitcase to store and carry the toy is also a wonderful aspect of the set. Lastly, I really appreciate that the farm comes with a garden: corn, tomatoes, and sunflowers to plant since so many of the other farm sets only emphasize animals.All the components are made from a sturdy brown foam with the designs affixed to either side. This is one of the potential problems. As I was assembling it for the first time, the glossy thick paper that inserts into the slots to assemble started to pull apart from the foam. I wish that these parts pf the toy that fit into the slots were reinforced with plastic. I think as my children continue to play with it and assemble it without rough play some of the designs will rip off, which is a shame since they are so nice. Also, the red handle on the suitcase keeps on slipping out of the slots, so it's a bit hard to carry. Again, I appreciate not using plastic -- I really do -- but I wish that the handle was strong enough to carry it.As an educator I really love this toy and I am happy that I purchased it for my child. However, I hope that the company continues to make small improvements that will add to the overall longevity of the toy.

7 year old girl received this for her birthday. We weren't overall impressed with the art, but that wasn't particularly important - it's whimsical enough. The book it comes with was so bad I couldn't stop laughing. It's more like a board game rule book giving ideas for how to play farm in the form of a very boring story that has no plot.The overall design of the set is great, it's fun to put together and everything fits well. The pieces are made of hard foam which reminds me of high quality board game pieces, and playing with it was a similar experience except there were no "game rules." (Unless the terrible story book counts.) It's kind of like buying Mouse Trap just to put the trap together for fun.The only problem we had was the paper peeling off of the foam when we pushed the pieces together, especially pieces like the animals' feet, vegetables, and fences. This happened to a small extent with just a few pieces, so altogether, still a good toy that will last...as long as its played with gently. Ironically enough, our puppy got one of the chickens right away, and the poor thing didn't stand a chance. -1 chicken.

This is a beautiful toy, but I would recommend it for ages 5 and up (we bought it for a 2 year old). The pieces are very small and fit together rather intricately and in fairly small spaces, so a good deal of fine motor control is necessary to really play with it. And there are so MANY tiny pieces! After opening and assembling this at Christmas, we decided to pack it away and bring it out when our grandson has grown a bit.

This product is pretty poorly conceived... it's very flimsy, not sturdy enough at all for the age that it purports to be targeting. I just don't know a lot of kids who are younger than say... 9yo... who would manage this toy the way it would delicately need to be damaged in order to not fall apart. Many of the pieces require a tiny miniature stand in order to stand up, and some don't even have that, so you just lay them flat (go figure). Really terrible product and idea. We quickly bought another farm toy with animals instead.

The Amazon pictures don't tell the whole story. This fabulous set is beautifully packaged in a sturdy box with Velcro fasteners. The informative book is simply written with lovely pictures. The playset pieces are made of thick, sturdy cardboard that should hold up well under play with multiple children. The homeless preschoolers for whom this was purchased will be absolutely delighted. I will be looking for the rest of these wonderful sets for future purchase.

I really wanted to give this 5 stars! The overall concept is awesome! My child loves it, the only complaint is that I wish it was a little sturdier. After using it about 5 times the fence bottoms are starting to wear and not go in the holes and stay up. Same goes with some of the other pieces.

Great farm play set. Schleich animal figures on image are not included in this set, but look great in it, and its own figures are good too. It has a lot of small details like chicken or rooster, but it is not a problem for playing with my 20 months old. I just put small parts back in the box. It is easy to assemble, no complaints at all. Looks very beautiful. My child likes insert plants and animals in the holes too and build a chicken pen herself. I recommend it very much. Would have bought any set related to forest or safary should they have it.
