Meet Me In St. Louis (1944)

It's a movie!

I had ordered this DVD from a movie company and after two defective copies was totally convinced, I would never own it. I then decided to try Amazon, and even though the cost was on the high side, the DVD arrived and was new and perfect with no defective parts. I love the storyline, it is both sentimental and moving about family, romance, and humor, with music that is wonderful with Judy Garland at her best.

My family can't get enough of this movie. Although it spans an entire year, summer home parties, fall Halloween, it is Christmas that steals the show,Great, uplifting entertainment for the whole family to enjoy. The cast is outstanding!:-)

The strong negative reviews by a number of people made me hesitant to buy the blu-ray edition. However, my wife and I love this movie, watch it frequently and the blu-ray was not priced too high. We compared the blu-ray edition to the two disc special edition using the same Sony DVD upscaling blu ray player into a 53 inch Sony SXRB rear projection TV. We conclude that both DVD's will provide a satisfactory home theater experience. However, the blu-ray has greater detail and has brighter overall image. Detail that is blurred on the two disc aniversary edition can be seen more clearly on the blu-ray DVD. For example, on the blu- ray edition one can see blades of grass on the front lawn and details on a silver colored goblet during the dinner scene. The color red seems more vibrant. We also felt that some of the details in the shadows during night scenes or dimly lit scenes were clearer in the blu - ray. We saw no background "grain" or other artifact. The sound seems to have a greater frequency range on the blu-ray disk but does not have much more directionality than the two disc aniversary edition. It may be that Warner Brothers might have produced a better blu-ray product, but what they did do seems distinctly different than the one standard DVD version that we own, and to my mind it is much better. If you own a blu ray DVD player and a large enough TV, the blu ray is worth the price.

I love this movie. A classic that is so much fun to watch again and again.

Feel Good Family movie

Judy had her best performance ever in trolly scene.( i was miffed cuz it was actually delivered on Sat 22nd. I complained and usps found it. A mistake. But pleased with seller. High five)

I hesitated on this Bluray DVD because some people said there were audio dropouts. However, it worked perfectly. I guess there will always be a few products with defects no matter what you are buying or ordering. Because most of the reviews were positive and reported no problems, I went ahead and ordered it. Worked perfectly! Also, I thought the high-Def bluray was really outstanding, and the audio tracks were also great.

Grazie a una sapiente masterizzazione il dvd appare perfetto. Il confronto con la versione in bianco e nero reperibile su Utube mostra a mio avviso qualche difformità rispetto al dvd attuale. Esso infatti non mostra, ad esempio, il ballo, nell'appartamento, dei giovani frequentatori della casa, come usava anche da noi qualche decennio fa. Bella la musica di questa 'operetta' in versione americana, così come incolte altre musical comedies dell'epoca. Da noi forse solo il 'Cavallino bianco' con Nuto Navarrini, e Aqua Cheta, possono reggere il confronto.

邦題で少し損をしている感あり。夢のように美しくたのしい音楽の映画。ヴィンセント・ミネリの初色彩映画で、ほんとうに色がきれい。隣の男の子に頼んで灯りをひとつひとつ消していく「暗」の場面も美しい。面倒とは優雅とイコールなり。全てのセットが美しく、画面構成が絶妙。ジュディは初め乗り気でなかったとのことだが、こうして見れば、彼女の代表作の一つであると同時に、Trolley songはミュージカル映画随一の名場面。スター性とはこういうことか。画面の計算された動きと効果が素晴らしい。1944年当時から見た「古き佳き時代」なわけで、当地で人気があるのも納得。20世紀初めの歌Meet me St.Louisがそのまま主題曲にもなっているのだが、佳い歌です。昔の映画は夢を与える仕掛けだったから、汚い言葉も何も出て来ない。イントロダクションでライザ・ミネリが温かい言葉を寄せているのもいい。

Me llegó al día siguiente de su compra. Un clásico imprescindible. Totalmente recomendable.

My cat 'Cocoa Classic' (Facebook) loves musical and this film is his favourite. Cat went missing one Sunday and came strolling home only when we played this movie on the video/TV! True story.This film has some of the most memorable tunes, like that lovely scene on the trolley - love finds those who welcomes it. The story is still so true for millions who have to face losing home and friends to search for work and means of keeping a family warm and fed. And that lovely ending arranged by a sweet, wise, caring grandfather - instead of nagging and preaching - he wanted a happy ending for the young sweethearts. "So have yourself a Merry Christmas now..."
