Great read!
Tracie Peterson once again writes a compelling story that captures the reader from the beginning. She shows God’s intervention throughout.

My Musings
An emotionally charged story with compelling characters and an absorbing plot. At first I didn't really fall in love with the heroine, but she grew on me as the story progressed. The complexity of the family dynamics were intriguing. I look forward to the next book, hoping it will tie up some of the dangling plotlines. Happy reading!

So much drama! I couldn’t put it down!
This story is filled with so much detail. The characters are all intriguing, some even maddening. But I absolutely loved the story. I couldn’t put it down and now that I finished the book, I can’t wait to read the second one in the series. Tracy Peterson does an excellent job as a storyteller. If you enjoy reading this kind of genre, then you will definitely love this book.

Very good except for copy errors
I really enjoyed the book and the characters come to life and it seems you know them. It had some twists and surprises. The only problem I had was that in at least a dozen or more places there were 2 to 6 paragraphs. I double checked two of her other books and found that had sections where several paragraphs were repeated - it makes for confusing reading--I thought my copy of Kindle for PC might be fouled up, but I tried several other books and they didn't have this problem. I also had a problem with 3 of her books having misaligned lines with half of the top or bottom like barely readable or the left or right side of the page but not on both sides of the page. This book is more than worth the time to read if you can manage to ignore the copy errors.

Book Has Good Resolution
Tracie Peterson has a way of drawing the reader into the story. Some may say that this book is predictable. I think it's predictable only if you read a lot of novels. If you read a lot, you begin to know how an author thinks. Predictable isn't all that bad, either. I guessed how the story "might" go, but I had no idea how it would get there. There is some sense of satisfaction in being right when you predict the ending of a novel. This book has been on my shelf for months. I'm glad I finally picked it up to read. I realize I also have the second book in the series also. Score! This is a historical novel, but the action is not so overwhelmingly historical. In other words, you understand what life was like in the late 1800's without the author giving you a history lesson. I look forward to reading the next book.

Suspenseful historical romance
I like that this author picks good underlying Christian messages to form her story around. In this case, it's the heroine wondering where God was during the many years of abuse that she endured. But the aunt, Zee, kinda confused me in this one. She repeatedly encouraged the hero and heroine to marry yet would also warn the hero not to marry the heroine as long as she's not a Christian. Seemed a bit of a mixed message. The good characters were nice people, and we did get some background and motive for the main characters. But I also felt like the story would have been stronger if the hero, heroine, and main bad guy were more deeply developed. For example, the bad guy was greedy and grew up seeing men using violent to get what they want, but still, why does he so strongly refuse to give up any part of the inheritance? He goes to such extreme measures. What fear was motivating him? The danger he poses adds suspense, but he was interesting enough of a character that I wanted to know more.I enjoy the story and would recommend it to historical romantic suspense fans, but I also felt it could have been even better.

A great Tracie Peterson Christian fiction
This was a great book that I will probably have to read again. It is difficult to find a book that is good, clean and fun to read. I really enjoyed reading this book in particular, it contained all that I could ask for in Christian fiction,it was suspenseful to the very end in that I wondered how Evie would turn out almost from the beginning although she was not really one of the main characters, perhaps that is what I liked the most about this book - the fact that I found all of the characters were interesting in their own way and couldn't wait to see how it all turned out, historical fiction is always educational as well in that it gives a great feel for the past, I highly recommend this book and did not receive it free in exchange for a favorable review,

nice story, more than just a romance - good plot
This was way better than I thought. I expected an easy-to-read love story, which it was, but there was so much more to the plot than that.Likeable characters, hate-able villains, good narration style on the whole - the only things I was missing were a more thorough editing and a bit more information about Alaska, as it is in the title of this series of which this was the first book.

Dawn's Prelude
The story centres round Lydia, a young woman who was married in her teens to a man who ill treated her as he had his first wife & their children . He & her father are killed together in an accident, leaving Lydia heiress to the family companies & money. Her stepsons who are older than she is try to get the property back but Lydia manages to escape to Alaska to an aunt. Once there she discovers she is pregnant and once the step brothers discover this they stop at nothing , including murder, to find out where she & her son are .The book is placed in the time when America had not long bought Alaska & includes a little detail about the original inhabitants which added to the interest for me . I enjoyed the book & will look out for more in the series

Thoroughly enjoyable,
This was a excellent story written with great sensitivity without losing its impact. To me it showed how true love, patience and kindness can impact a life and help one to overcome difficult circumstances, Had to keep reading - and just starting book 2 which looks to be just as enjoyable.

Escape to Alaska
When an accident claims the lives of Lydia Gray’s father and her brutal husband, she hopes for a simpler, happier life. But the terms of the men’s wills place her in jeopardy at the hands of her greedy, evil stepsons, so she flees to Sitka, Alaska, where her aunt Zerelda lives. The trip is more difficult than expected, and when Lydia finally gets to Sitka, she faints into the arms of Kjell Bjorklund.Dawn’s Prelude deals with harsh topics of abuse and terrible greed, and the grievous subject overshadowed the romance and place in this story. Author Tracie Peterson paints vivid pictures of the various characters, and I came to care about Lydia, Zee, and Kjell, but not as much as I wanted to. At the same time, the tension-filled story line held me captive until the very end.I plan to read more books by Tracie Peterson, and this one earns four stars.
