Pick another pick: These are tactilely distracting and uncomfortable to play with
I'm ALWAYS up for trying new guitar picks, simply because that little experience generally helps me discover something, whatever it is, about my playing technique, or something sonically. (I've got felt picks, wooden picks, aluminum picks, acrylic picks, Fender picks, Dunlop picks, Martin picks â I hate Gibson picks; I hate sharp pointed picks, love beveled edge picks, hate thin picks, love practicing with thick 2mm ones ... my most recent prior sampling was of Gravity picks, and I like 'em.)So I gave these a try, and I may have to rethink my willingness to just try new designs. Unfortunately â and anyone else's mileage may vary, so to speak â there's nothing about these picks I like. I get the tri-pointed design (lots of others do that, it was a reason I gave Gravity a go), the center hole for better grip, the variable thickness, textured surface for much of the same reason. With these picks, however, those three design elements make the pick uncomfortable to hold. When I'm playing I need to be loose, no death grip on the pick (or guitar neck), so the pick will shift ever so slightly in my index finger-thumb grip. With these picks, you end up in a spot that's entirely uncomfortable, you feel it shifting. And that's the thin edge. The thicker edge is worse, the texturing around the center hole is more distracting. If you go to their website, they declare they're overthinking the guitar pick and reinventing the wheel, lamenting that the humble guitar pick has been virtually unchanged since the 1920s. That's just plain wrong. They also are fast to bring up beginner players, and their design caters to the beginner. No it doesn't. It makes promises that can't be kept, since there's more wrist and arm involvement, and that's where controlling the pick is learned. Texturing the surface and putting a hole(s) in the center have been around a long time, ditto for a thinner center of the pick (where the whole is) ... all not new, and alas, badly reimagined with these picks.I wish I could say something positive, but this time out exploring new picks was super disappointing. It doesn't take hours of playing to get the vibe of a guitar pick. It's something that comes to you almost instantly, as in I instantly disliked how much and easily the pick shifted (even with that textured surface/hole) and how quickly that was distracting and made me want to ditch the pick, which happened faster than a 16th note.

Best pick Iâve ever played!
Iâve been a professional guitarist since 1971. Played or recorded with everybody from Bob Dylan to Diana Ross, Dr. Dre, Phil Everly, Ron Wood, Brian Wilson, Dave Mason, Jermaine & Rebbie Jackson, Dolly Parton, Lalo Shifrin, Burt Bacharach, Willie Colon, Harry Belafonte, Trini Lopez, Chicago, etcâŚA lot of great artists across lots of genres. Whenever I was playing guitar, I kept multiple picks handy in case I dropped the one I was using. In my pockets, in the pickguard, on my amp, etc. But since I started using these Bog Street Axe Cut picks I donât need to do that anymore. I havenât dropped one of these since I first played with one at last summerâs NAMM show here in Nashville. Thatâs the truth, not a single dropped pick. You know those photos of guitarists like Eddie Van Halen where he has a line of picks taped to a mic boom stand? Those days are over. Iâm sorry Eddie didnât live to try these picks. My friend the late Phil Everly tried making picks with a hole in the middle so he wouldnât drop it when he lifted his guitar up on the Everly Brothers classic hit âBye Bye Loveâ. These picks not only wonât fall out of your hands, they have increased my playing and picking accuracy to more than twice what it was before. And I am a pretty accurate player. I could go on and on about how much I love these Bog Street picks. If you want to ask me anything else, please feel free to contact me under my name on social media outlets like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. Buy these picks, you wonât regret it!! (PS, they also make great guitar strings!!)Ted âTheoâ PerlmanProducer, Guitarist, Songwriter, Theologian
