Scubapro Apnea Freediving Diving Snorkel

I'm a long time diver and have always preferred a simple "J" snorkel vs. "no flood" snorkels. I've dove this particular "J" snorkel for many years (until recently branded in Scubapro dive shops as "SnorkelPro" vs "Scubapro") and have 4 or 5 that I use to help train new snorkelers. The last time I bought this style snorkel the mouthpiece itself was clear. I find that to be an advantage since you can clearly see any water remaining in that mouthpiece after trying to clear it. You can hold it up to a student to show them how much water they didn't expel. They can then independently work on their technique and self-check the residual water in their mouthpiece to see if they've achieved a better, first-blow "clear".I just bought a new one from this page a few weeks ago and was disappointed to see that the mouthpiece is now completely opaque; eliminating the ability for an objective view on how much water remains in the snorkel. I asked a local Scubapro tech why this change was made and he said it was his understanding that this was done for esthetics. Apparently there were some complaints that the clear mouthpieces often turn a bit brown-tinted - just as with most such transparent plastics in masks - if they're left in full sun too often and for too long. As you can see from the years-old one on the left in the attached picture, it's hardly a big deal. I'm not a fan of sacrificing function for esthetics. In any case I've never seen any experienced diver who was worried about how pristine their gear looked on the boat or the dock.Other than that change, I still like this snorkel and will continue to buy it. It's simple, small, holds up well, breathes well, has no "no flood" valve to screw up or add effort to clearing the tube, and is clean of unnecessary obstructions that can hang up on other gear.

Great pocket snorkel. I would recommend it as a great light weight back up when diving. I do not believe that it is a good primary snorkel if that is all you are using it for. For that… Scubapro has better options, and ones with more features. Aside from that I will say when you are diving deep the color is actually bright too. If anything, its great for recognition when diving in a group.

I’m an experienced free diver that need durable equipment with limited potential to break/malfunction. This is definitely it for the snorkel world. No shotgun valve, no flapper ball on top; just the bear necessities.

It’s fine and as expected. It catches and pulls my hair at the connection point to the mask, which is a common annoyance with all snorkels. For the price point it’s fine.

Snorkel keeper (for me) was a pain to get it perfect…..I think my mouth moves on my face lol

Build is nice, but unfortunately I don’t think it fits on my face well and is too flimsy so it folds in my mouth. Not a bad snorkel just doesn’t work well for me.

Nach dem heutigen Test im Freibad muss ich meine erste Beurteilung revidieren, und zwar zum Positiven hin. Der Schnorchel ist super. Er ist wertig verarbeitet und riecht nicht. Allerdings traue ich mich nicht recht, ihn umzuklappen - das geht nämlich schwer, und ich befürchte dann eine Beschädigung. Aber da ich ihn zum Atmen brauche, und er dafür super geeignet ist, reicht mir das völlig. Fünf wohlverdiente Sterne und Empfehlung!

Der schnorchel ist super flexibel, sehr leicht und hält optimal an der Taucherbrille. Er hat sich im Urlaub bewehrt und man kann schnell viel Luft einatmen und das Wasser lässt sich schnell freipusten.
