Occidental Leather5588 Stronghold Master Carpenter Case

I flinched a bit at the cost, but I like Occidental's stuff and after looking at all the similar products out there I bought. I like it a lot - its almost makes me think that money can buy happiness. Soft bags are no good - they flop over or like the gate-mouth type you 'loose' your tools in them. Occidental hit it just right - rigid enough to stand up straight yet the leather won't take a chunk out of your knee when you lug it around. I am a carpenter and this is my go-to bag for hand tools I use most - rasps, screwdrivers, chisels, pliers and the like. The external pockets offer good visibility of tools, the plastic sleeves inside for chisels. I added my own wooden compartment in one of the three interior bays for long pilot drills, impact bit extension, rasps and files. I find it has adequate quantity and type of pockets, pouches and sleeves for the size of the bag. I like the quality, the leather, the good design, the made in the USA. I recommend it highly.

Awesome, american made. Lots of pockets. It would need another chisel protector, but you can buy it separately for about seven dollars. If you respect yourself and take pride in your work this will be an easy decision. So stylish but also such good quality and so useful. I bought a second after the first one, used for 4 years, disappeared under “mysterious “ circumstances.

Four stars because it is pricey. Regardless I love this bag. If ever you wanted a leather bag that is very well made, this is the one. I'm looking forward to having it last the rest of my life. Worthy of passing down to someone after I'm gone.

I have tried at least 15 different carpenter cases and all had very annoying flaws until I bought this one. The 5588 is nearly perfect in all respects in terms of organization and usage. I was shocked at the price, but having used it now for a few months, I dont know what I did without it. Looks great too. If there is a negative, it is heavy, but what makes it heavy is the wide range of pockets and the thick leather. Best case available.

In my opinion the picture is misleading, it looks somewhat cheap. It is far from cheap looking in real life. This tool carrier is a work of art!!! Plenty big enough (Im glad i went with this one and not the journeyman tote.) Handmade in the USA out of outstanding leather. My gate mouth style bag was alot heavier with the same amount of tools this one seems to disperse the weight better. This one stays more organized than the gate mouth bag too. This is heirloom quality and worth the investment.

I love it, so much, like too much probably. It'll be my son's after I'm dead and gone. Occidental anything is made to last, worth every penny, looks fantastic.

Great tool bag, fits a ton of tools in a compact bag. Pouches and compartments actually fit tools, and give good accessibility to the tools so they don't get lost or buried in the bag. Pricey, but high quality. At the price, it would have been nice if they had included the shoulder strap; fill the bag with tools and you'll need it. The tape measure holder is a little small for even a good 16' tape measure. Overall, exactly what I was looking for as a carpenter/contractor.

This is a top quality product! My only reason for 4 stars is the price is a bit high. But I guess it makes these bags a little more exclusive and exclusivity comes at a price!

Occidental leather makes the best quality products available. We also bought a tool belt, it'll last forever. The products are heavier because of the leather but amazing craftsmanship and durability are worth it.
