MACMILLAN My Life and Rugby: The Autobiography

An honest bloke......
I like Eddie Jones. He’s a fair dinkum, straight up and down Aussie bloke. Eddie loves his rugby, his teams and his players. A true professional. I personally hope that he stays with England until the next World Cup but as and when he leaves us I think he will have left the shirt in a much better state than he found it and he’ll be fondly remembered.

No real surprises
I was hoping for a bit more of an insight into Jones’ mind. The latter half of the book really just is in the format of 1) build up to a match, 2) brief remarks about a game and how the players performed and 3) some quotes he made at a press conference which are already in the public domain. There are also a notable number of errors which an editor should have spotted. This being said the book is still easy and enjoyable enough to read.

We are all Rugby Nuts. 2 of my grandchildren play + so does my brother in law. They all will love this book. ( Xmas present. Not read yet)

Very Disappointing
I have read many rugby autobiographies and I was extremely disappointed whilst reading this, despite previously holding Jones in high regard. The author writes with numerous chips on his shoulders and entirely without humour or goodwill. This is not in any way an enjoyable read.

Bio of a self centred rugby coach
Had great expectations only to be disappointed. Learnt little about this nomadic character and his personal life, that must be pretty complicated, globetrotting every few years, if not months. Just too much commentary on games apparently to bolster the word count. The coaching insight was the plus point.
