i bought the book the first time and half the book was upside down while the other half was not and same thing happened with the second book i bought. i don’t recommend

I loved this book from beginning to end. As soon as I finished reading We Hunt the Flame I lied on my bed chanting “I need the next book, I need it, I need it, I need it,” because it utterly destroyed me and I need to know what happens next.I was instantly hooked into this story. I was instantly intrigued by what was happening and I had difficulty putting it down. I loved that the chapters and perspective switched between Zafira and Nasir. Giving two, sometimes opposite and conflicting, insights into the story. I loved that their two points of views started off so very different and showing two different parts of the world. Which slowly began to align as the story progressed and they realised that they needed the other to find the book on Sharr.The journeys and growth that the characters go through over the course of this novel were heartbreaking at times. So much happened to Zafira and Nasir, to them separately and them together that I don’t know how to put into words the roller coaster this book was.So many of the characters were dark and conflicted, hiding secrets from others and sometimes themselves. The main group of characters, the zumra, don’t all truly trust each other. Well, Zafira and Nasir don’t seem to trust anyone really. But they all have to work together in order to reach the same goal. As Sharr plays on their fears and loneliness, Sharr (the prision island) is alive in a way and can play them against each other. The beings that had once been trapped during the rein of the Six Sisters have been left unchecked and allowed to roam wild since magic and the Sisters vanished. Many of them are bloodthirsty and want to get their hands on the zumra. So even though they don’t want to work together they have to survive this island.I loved that they were forced together to stay alive. Going from enemies, begrudging friends/allies, friends but-I’m-not-going-to-admit-it, and potential even more in the sequel (mainly between Zafira and Nasir). Think that there’s also some potential for the found family trope that might work with the groups dynamic.This book has really stayed with me since I read it and I think that it is one of the best books that has come out in 2019. It is an amazing debut that is rich with magic, love, family, friendship, and so much more. I highly recommend this to anyone that loves fantasy. I would say that this is one of the must read books of 2019.The only downside of this book is that I don’t have the sequel already.

O começo é meio enrolado mas vale completamente a pena da metade para frente. Temos enemies to lovers, amizades formadas, pessoas descobrindo quem são na vida, uma leitura poética mas que ao mesmo tempo, corre de uma maneira fluida o suficiente para você ler mais de 100 páginas em poucas horas.Se você não tem um inglês fluente ou avançado, recomendo esperar o lançamento em português. Mas se você tem ou quer arriscar, manda bala que a leitura é uma delícia!

Resumo do livro: horrível.Pra quem lê a sinopse, acha que o livro é bom — assim como eu. Mas não se engane pela sinopse ou pela capa bonita. A história é muito arrastada, e por outro lado, também achei rápida. Por exemplo, o livro é dividido em três partes, e a primeira parte, de praticamente 100 páginas, é só introdução dos personagens, narrando, nessas quase 100 páginas, desde o momento que eles são "convocados" para procurarem pelo objeto perdido — eles são chamados bem no começo — até o momento em que eles, de fato, vão. É muito lenga lenga, muita narração pra pouca ação e eu achei desnecessário aquele texto todo sobre porcaria nenhuma.O livro é muito fraco, cara. As partes que eu acho que deveriam ser mais trabalhadas, foram jogadas de qualquer jeito, com rapidez. As lutas, muito insossas, e, além disso, em uma Ilha que, de acordo com a história, foram aprisionados várias criaturas ruins, parecia existir só ifrit, porque praticamente foi a única coisa que eles lutaram contra a história inteira. Não tinha nenhuma graça ou emoção, porque eles lutavam contra um grupo e não passava um dia e eles já estavam lutando contra outro grupo.E o romance, pelo amor de Deus? Ridículo. Não houve embasamento, nem nada. Eles num dia estão de odiando por serem "inimigos naturais" e no outro já estão se olhando diferente, querendo o calor um do outro. E a autora ainda força uma cena vergonhosa em que o Nasir tá tomando banho num riacho e a Zafira fica olhando. Foi ridículo e vergonhoso pra mim que estava lendo. Eu entendo que Nasir é um assassino e que se interessou pela bondade de Zafira, mas não houve brecha pra ele simplesmente se apaixonar por ela. Pra mim isso aconteceu muito do nada. Eles mal se falavam, ele estava sempre calado, não conversava com ela e com ninguém, então como se espera que um relacionamento se desenvolva através de nada?Tudo no livro foi ridiculamente previsível. Qualquer coisa que fosse pra ser considerada uma revelação, pareceu nada. Como se fosse nada. Eu lia e ficava "tá bom, next", porque era tão previsível e desprovido de emoção ou nexo. A autora não soube criar um mistério, pra instigar os leitores. História muito previsível, nenhuma revelação foi grandes coisas.Ela não soube criar o romance. Não soube desenvolver o plot. Não soube fazer nada.E a escrita dela? Bem, não gostei. Não consegui me conectar. Não que fosse ruim, porque ela até que usava umas palavras diferentes, etc, mas não curti de jeito nenhum. Saiu sem graça pra mim. Muito ruim. Se quer usar palavras bonitas e difíceis: saiba usá-las. E detalhe: ela usa bastante palavras Árabes, e tá tudo bem, porque o universo da história é algo parecido com isso, mas não existe um glossário no livro para te direcionar. Tive que pesquisar, e depois descobri que ela tinha um glossário no site dela. Minha filha????? Escreve um livro todo enrolado, só enrolação na primeira parte, mas não é capaz de colocar um glossário no próprio livro? Não sei se ela quis colocar e a editora que publicou decidiu não pôr, mas... 100 páginas de enrolação no início, podia ter cortado umas 3 páginas de enrolação da primeira parte pra inserir um glossário descente.Enfim, muito ruim, péssimo, horrível, abominável, uma decepção. O pior livro que eu li até agora. Na realidade, acho que foi o pior livro que eu li em toda a minha vida. Se eu pudesse dava zero estrelas. Não pretendo ler a continuação e aconselho a qualquer um que tenha interesse em ler, que leia em e-book primeiro, pra não gastar dinheiro com um livro que você não vai gostar no final, como eu fiz. Me arrependo demais da compra. We Hunt the Flame foi com Deus.

This book has it all. Beautiful characters, a magnificent setting inspired by Ancient Arabia, amazing writing, magic & an interesting plot. There is such a different set of characters, fierce huntress Zafira, brooding Nasir, chatty and flirty Altair, mother friend Benyamin, matter-of-fact Kifah and so many others. They're all wonderful and I loved to see them interact with each other.The setting was amazing, the different cursed calipahtes were described so beautifully. The writing in general was absolutely gorgeous, it was so fun to read. And it is so quotable omg.Just... everything about this book is wonderful and I loved every single page of it.

I had a really hard time getting into it but after the first 100 pages it really picked up and I had a great time after that. Would recommend if you like YA, especially if you are tired of Eurocentric storylines.
