Forever Phoenix

An Excellent Conclusion to a Wonderful series
The arrival of Forever Phoenix is good news and bad news. It's good news because a new Cathy Cassidy book is automatically good news, but bad news because it heralds the end of what has been arguably Cathy's best series to date. Central to the book is the trademark deceptively complex character of Phoenix herself, who is likeable but flawed and her story gives a very valuable lesson in communication, especially between parents and children. The things that aren't said in close relationships are often left open to misinterpretation, and in these days when kindness is so important, it reminds us that those we love can't always guess that is the case and may need to be told, that we don't always understand that our parents are proud of us and sometimes it needs proving. The story of the Lost and Found reaches a satisfying conclusion, with the band on the cusp of success, but not all the band members willing or able to take the next step. To me, this is perfectly believable; it's one thing to form a band with your mates, but when fame beckons, not everyone can follow it through for one reason or another. Anyone who doesn't find this plausible could do worse than google the names Pete Best and especially Stuart Sutcliffe to see how easily fame can be missed. I have thoroughly enjoyed the Lost and Found series and look forward very much to seeing what one of the most talented authors of fiction for young people writing today comes up with next.
