This is a great tool - but does not work for me
I gave it a 5 star but lowered the other rating due to the following problem. (I am keeping this tool) - It works well on my short haired dog but is messed up by the long hair on my Skye terriers paws. The hair gets on the nail and seems to mess up the accuracy. I'm afraid I will clip her nail wrong. Looks like I'll have to take her to the vet. Her claws are very tough - almost like a German Shepard. She only weighs 21 pounds!

Doesn't work
First of all, it is a poor design. It is very tough to see the lights when the sensor is held against the nail. It also malfunctions most of the time. When I've tried to use it, either it won't turn on or when it turns on the yellow light stays on solid, not blinking as it's supposed to and I can't do anything with it. I can't even shut if off and have to remove the batteries to shut it off. It also doesn't detect the quick very well and often only determines it's safe to cut when there is no nail in the clipper. I can detect the quick better than this. Save your money, buy a good set of clippers and learn how to determine where the quick is in your dog's nails. Unfortunately, I didn't try this until it was too late to return it and now I'm stuck with a useless set of clippers.

the cutter part is great, very sharp and gives a good cut
Only used about 10 times,,,, only for a few months, the cutter part is great , very sharp and gives a good cut. The "Sensor" portion, the reason I bought it to begin with and paid such a high price, quit working, thought it may be the batteries, bought a new set,,, a bit pricey for batteries but I figured the ones that came with were probably not the best. Now I have a set of batteries that do me no good. Unit just quit,,,, didn't drop them , get them wet or anything to interfere with their performance. I really like them, they helped me learn how to trim without the sensor. I still use them, just wished the sensor part would work. Thought about buying another pair , but the costs keep getting higher and higher.Oh well. at least I have a good solid pair of trimmers.

Slow to glow
If you are working with a dog that doesn’t sit still when trimming, don’t bother thinking you can utilized the quick-finder. The clippers do cut very well though.

So safe for your pet
This is a terrific product! So safe for your pet. It works exactly as advertised. Heavy duty and easy to use. It sure takes to worry out of doggie nail trimming. I love it. I will share this product with my dog owning friends.

Secret is that must power on before removing safety catch for it to work
Their website stresses that first turn on the power, when it turns red - then unlock the unit (remove the safety catch) so that the unit will read properly. I didn't see this mentioned at all in the paper instructions that came with the unit - so at first, I was having the same frustrating experience as the majority of the reviewers had. Then I looked on their website. Success - all nails safely clipped on my GSD with the reward system of 1 treat per nail.Update: Dec. 2012 Yes it works but mine didn't last. My GSD is big 130 lbs. with big paws and tough nails. I only used for a few times - so maybe this would have happened during the 90 day warranty period. Then last month I couldn't put off the nails any longer. What happened is that after clipping a nail, it would shut off - at first if I waited 40 seconds - I could get it back on. Then nothing. I changed the batteries - same thing happened after clipping the nails on one paw. So, I have decided to try the Dremel pet grinder - rechargeable batteries.

Not worth the money for us.
We have a Great Pyrenees - bought these hoping they would do the trick. The sensor wasn't seeming to work, despite following the instructions to the letter- I even cleaned his nails and dried them to make sure there wasn't mud/dirt interfering in the process. I trimmed only one nail successfully, and with a lot of mighty muscle! After the one nail, I couldn't get another one cut; these simply weren't beefy enough to handle his nails. I ended up giving up and taking him to the vet for a nail trim. Super bummed.

Doesn't Work as Advertised, Save your Money
My dog has black nails and I wanted to start cutting them myself to save money, but I was nervous about nipping the nail quicks. In turn, I bought this product, hoping that it would really work. I read the reviews beforehand (I should have listened to them), and I figured I would just make sure to calibrate it and hope for the best. I watched the included DVD and followed all instructions, but the light usually showed red when any of her nail was close to it (even the end), and sometimes it showed green when it was definitely not safe to cut the nail. After finding that the product didn't work as advertised, I figured I could just use it as a normal nail cutter, but I found that it just wasn't sharp enough and tended to pinch my dog's nails, which my dog would pull away from since it was probably uncomfortable. A couple of times, it even somewhat crushed/cracked my dog's nails when pressure was applied.I would highly recommend just going with a normal pet nail cutter (like the Safari one on Amazon). It'll be much cheaper, and will probably work much better. After this product, I bought the Safari small/medium pet nail clipper, and it's worked great so far.

Not Confident
The lights were all over the place and I was not confident to use these. I had another pair which were better quality and a fraction of the price so used them instead very carefully. The lights are a very expensive gimmick so returned for refund.

Good item to use with a dog who absolutely hates ...
Good item to use with a dog who absolutely hates nail cutting. I had to use it whenever my dog slept deeply and just take a nail at a time even if it means one nail a day. It works. You have to get used to it but the concept is amazing for those dogs who do not have the luxury of having white nails where the quick is visible. I would highly recommend it. I wish though that one does not have to keep the light towards the body of the dog but it should be made to work on any side. Anyway that is just me trying to capture the moment when my dog is asleep otherwise it is a full fledged nipping at the clipper war.

Not Reliable
This was great for the 1st time...after that the LED stayed RED and never went to GREEN or YELLOW.
