Super
Great stories, a little long at times, but usually finish a story in one or two sittings with my 5 year old. Have not been impressed with traditional fairy tales with the helpless princess relying on a prince etc. Wanted to encourage my daughter to have strong female role models. This book is a great base with stories of adventurous girls/women/princesses rescuing princes and not marrying them but choosing to live a life of adventure etc. My 5 year old pleads today read a story every day from this book.

Sadly not the feminist alternative to mainstream kids literature
This book is a bit strange; it touts itself as being feminist alternative to traditional fairy tales, and there are some good parts (e.g., female protagonists and flipping the prince-rescues-princess trope, non-white central characters occasionally feature in the illustrations), however most of the stories end in females winning male favour (and marriage), portrayed as the pinnacle of "happily ever after". Also, the focus on female appearance and 'beauty' is as strong as ever. Also, I can't overlook this: the writing (grammar, sentence structure, narrative progression) is pretty poor. Unforgivable in a kids book, if you ask me. I'm giving it 3 stars because the little girl I bought it for really likes princesses etc and really likes the book; it is definitely better than the alternative, but not by much. Still, I would not have bought it knowing what I know now.

An amazing book for any young girl.
I bought this for my 6 year old. She loves the stories and always wants more. She is a huge Disney fan and loves princesses. This book was a nice change of pace with strong young women going on adventures and wonderfully written tales based off real fairy tales. I was a bit hesitant to purchase this at first because many reviews made this out to be some kind of ultra feminist brainwashing book. I don't regret buying this at all it is amazing to have fairy tale stories other than damsil in distress.
