France Luxe Luxury Rectangle Barrette, Africa - Classic French Design for Everyday Wear

Updated review August 2020:I’ve upped the star rating, as the seller quickly replaced the broken barrette with a new one. While my prior review still stands in that the barrettes don’t seem to be as durable as they used to be, I’m now careful to pull back a bit less hair and it hasn’t broken again. Also a factor in all of this is that I have yet to find a prettier brand of barrettes anywhere else.Original review:I’ve worn this brand for at least 10 years, but Warning: the barrette broke after wearing only three times! The latch no longer ‘snaps’ shut; the metal they use is softer, I’m guessing? It used to take years of regular use for this to happen.I’ve never left an Amazon review before, this is my first, but for $16 ($18 not on sale) I’d expect it not to break like this. Before what must have been a change in the material used for the latching mechanism, each of these beautiful barrettes would last years.Beware, they look like the same beautiful product but now it will break just as quickly as the cheapies you find at WalMartSo disappointed. These barrettes used to be sold at Nordstrom, but no wonder I couldn’t find there anymore.I’ll report back to let you all know if at least the seller at least doesn’t give me a hard time returning it.(Update 12/10/10): Seller offers returns/exchanges; I chose to exchange it so as to give the produce anther try, hoping that the broken one is a fluke. I had ordered 4 total, not all of them have arrived yet; once I start wearing them regularly, the eventual product rating will reflect the aggregate quality of all of therm.

This is a beautiful well made barrette. I have salt and pepper hair with some warm low lights and this looks great in it. I bought two sizes one for when I put up only part of my hair and a larger one for when I want to put up all of it. highly recommend.

Be sure to read the product description and consider the measurements listed for this barrette because it is quite tiny compared to the distorted wide product image and image of woman modeling a barrette in the advertisement image. Way too small a barrette to clip back my hair, compared to much cheaper barrette styles I purchased on Amazon. Ok for a side barrette to sweep back a small swatch of hair. Will be passing this on to young grandnieces with thin fine hair to wear!

I bought one of these for my mother because she's been wearing the same barrette everyday for years. Every time we went to the pharmacy or department store we would look at the same plain cheap ones and go home empty handed. I wanted to get her something nice and different. I liked the various color selections and the one I chose (Caramel Horn) was true to the photo. Though a bit more expensive than I would normally pay for a hair accessory, the clip was well-made, polished quite nicely, and did not look cheap. My mother also has thin hair, which was a concern, but this barrette was marketed as, "perfect for a thin to medium hair ponytail," which is true in that the back of the clip has a high metal bar attached that meets the clip and secures the hair in place, the downside, however, is that it also makes the height of the barrette much larger and it protrudes rather noticeably if worn any place but towards the back of the head. Also, although my mother has long hair, because it is thin, there is not so very much of it which can be a problem because the barrette requires a decent amount of hair in order to fully secure it in place. These are all things that can be gotten over with a bit of fine tuning and a slight change in her simple everyday hairdo however I might tend to recommend this barrette to someone with more medium-thickness hair to fully enjoy it.

This is a really great barrette! At first I thought it would be much too small and that it would not work for me. I gave it a try anyway with my hair as I wear it almost always - in a ponytail at the nape of the neck. I haven't had any trouble with this slipping off or coming out completely as did others that were too large. I also didn't have problems with it being too small and not holding all my hair at once. This is the 4th barrette I've tried and doesn't need to be returned. My hair is long (1/2 way down my back) but it's more fine textured than thick and this is perfect! The quality is evident, the color choices are numerous and this barrette is well worth the price! The color I bought is alba and it's a very neutral color that matches just about everything. I never realized how many different barrettes there are to choose from, sizes and colors, but for my type of hair this is the best!

Very disappointed with this purchase. I have been using the same brand of hair barrettes for a while and decided to buy a new one in Nacro black. Did not realize that this one is not of the same size as the ones I have been using, although the names were similar and the pictures look the same. Only after careful comparison I discovered that the recent one is described as France Luxe Luxury Rectangle Barrette where as the previous one was described as France Luxe Classic Rectangle Hair Barrette. The recent one turned out to be a tiny barrette which will not hold all your hair for any adult. You will have to part your hair and use it as decoration only. I immediately tried to return it in exchange for the bigger size but the seller will not accept to take it back. So I wasted $16 for something that is utterly useless.

Really fantastic product. My hair doesn't get tangled in it. It holds the hair securely, It's very attractive and well made. Comes in a lot of great colors, too. There is no comparison between this and the cheap Goody product of the same type that I was using.

I love the quality of France Luxe products all together. I have very fine hair and this barette holds my hair in place without any problems. I'm worried a barrette or hair clip will just fall out of my hair easily because my hair is smooth and thin. This barrette does the job in holding my hair half-up without falling at all and it does it for the whole day if I need it in place that long.
