A page turner book✨️✨️ , poor cover quality.
My first John Marrs book, I bought three more because of this one. It's the kind of book that you can't put down with every chapter you read. It starts off slowly and then it gets really intense and you want to keep going. The book is about the story of a mother and a daughter. And the big question is who the wrong one? Honestly, the plot didn't surprise me that much, I saw it coming right from the start, but it still unfolds, adding new branches to the story, and you start to wonder, wait, but is it really? And I loved that. Nevertheless, the ending wasn't expected.I felt that Nina's memories became so intense and a little confusing that her return to reality left me a little confused. After reading ‘The Good Samaritan’, I felt the same about Laura, so maybe it's the author's style, not a bad thing, just the transition back is abrupt. My only complaint has nothing to do with the story itself, but rather with the quality of the book's cover, unfortunate that in the first few pages I read, the cover was ruined. Sad ☹️.Next on my list: The good Samaritan ✔️, The Marriage act, The Passengers ...

A dark and twisted, but utterly compelling thriller
What a bleak and depressing but compelling read this was and I loved every page of it. I can't remember how long it's been since a 'psychological thriller' had such an impact on me.The story is told from the point of view of the daughter and the mother, which in this book isn't just a gimmick, but an essential part of how the story unfolds, because mother and daughter experience their own reality in a very different way. The story also shifts between the present and events that happened in the past, but this is also crucial for the way the author slowly reveals what events have led to the current situation where the daughter keeps her mother captive in her bedroom. Although the book starts quite slowly, I gradually got sucked into their world and as the truth starts to emerge, like so many pieces of a puzzle, it felt like a punch to the gut each time a new hidden secret came to light.Apart from the dynamic way in which the author tells his story, the psychological depth of both main characters was one of the main attractions for me: I still don't know whether to feel sorry for them or be horrified by what they did and I still don't know how far you can go to protect your loved ones.I generally don't recommend books, because I also don't like people recommending me books (they are generally not very good 😁), but for this one I'd like to make an exception for all the pessimists among us.

If you like Behind Closed Doors this one is for you
I always have a hard time with books without likeable characters. This one is going to be the exception to the rule. I felt like I wasn't rooting for Nina or Maggie and I still enjoyed it.A wild ride that reminds me of Behind closed doors by B.A.Paris this one is full of just enough mystery to keep you wondering who's side you're on and guess about what really happened.

Twist after twist
I really loved this book. I think this is one of the best books i read. If they are ever going to make a tv serie out of this book i would definitely watch it! I loved how every time when i thought i understand what happend there was e new twist. The only thing that kept me wondering was the ending. Like was it a open ending? Or is there going to be a second book? But as i said one of the best books i read.
