I've been carrying various type of backpacks, including some leather backpacks, to the office for about 2 decades. A couple times a week I usually bring a very heavy laptop home to work remotely. And I am quite impressed with this jaald vintage leather backpack.It looks more expensive than it costs. The quality is very good. With some additional care and break-in period, you could be carrying a backpack that is expensive as 200 USD. The leather is apparently goat leather, not cow leather, and that's a good thing. Thick leather would add to the weight substantially. And all leather types are as strong just the same.This backpack seems like partly sewn using machine, and partly handmade. Some reviewers did not like the rivets because they look cheaply made. You can see that the rivets are irregular, and those were installed by hand. But that's part of the charm of partisan goods. As long as they are firmly pressed in, there will be no problem.It is quite comfortable to carry on your back. And the top can be rolled down to make it a small backpack when you carry smaller latop, and then unrolled up to make it a large backpack to carry a 17" laptop. All with a lot of room to put in a day change of clothes, some toiletry, and a tablet.The lack of small pockets outside gives this backpack a nice clean profile. This is no problem since there is a quite large pocket ouside to keep phone, keys, napkins, etc, handy for quicker access. I use small ziplog bags (with slider) to separate my stuff to organize them in the same way as if I have 3 smaller pockets.The leather is stiff when it is brand new. It is easy to condition it to make the skin softer and also to get a patina quicky as if you've been carrying for months. I would use balsam type of leather conditioner, ot baby oil. If the color is too bright for you, then you can also make it a darker brown quicky in only a few days (Google the instruction). This backpack has the natural smell of new leather. If it is too strong for you, then use some baking soda (put about 1/2 cup in a sock and the backpack inside a large plastic garbage bag for a day or two).I will update this review in a few months.
