Too big and heavy for most jobs, well made enough for single bevel re-sharpening
It is an ok knife aesthetically, a bit big and heavy for regular cutting work and the single edge takes time to get used to for harder foods so you will run into the common problems steering the knife, neither of which make for a go to knife for a home cook.My real issue is with both the rounded front and the lack of a proper concave in the back. I worked on this knife for a few hours to try and prepare the chisel front side for easier single bevel sharpening, but the real issue was how poorly the back side concave is, the back side of the knife should not be completely flat but have a indent where only the backside of the cutting surface and the edges are actually touching a sharpening stone. I ended up working on the back for more than an hour on very course stones before it resembled the surface it should have started at, but it is still to lumpy to consistently touch all the way along the current edge, making sharpening a chore.I'll keep this one as a novelty or to practice sharpening with, I would not recommend this knife to a friend.

Comfortable and a breeze to use
I just recently received this knife. I have only used it once so far but I am very pleased. Some of the knives that I have work great but I keep hitting my knuckles on the counter when using them. This knife looked like there would be more room by the handle so that it would no longer be a problem. Not only did it solve that problem but I was cutting some pretty big carrots which can be pretty hard to cut thru. This knife cut them so easily. It took a lot less time and was so much easier to use, I can see that this is going to be my new favorite knife. Thank you so much.

Heavier than I thought and is not like the first one I bought!
I bought a Vegetable Cleaver (or Japanese vegetable knife) from Amazon at the end of 2017.It was a fantastic knife: sharp, light, with exceptional balance, and a very sharp edge out of the box !!Most unfortunately, I lost it; someone stole it, or otherwise; I just don't know.I decided to replace it.I checked my previous orders and they showed I bought such a knife in late 2017, so I reordered. The knife that arrived was heavier, not as well balanced at all, and not as sharp at the first one :((I am VERY disappointed.Worth mentioning too that I do not think that the brand of the first purchased knife was a Tradafor. It was most likely a different brand, but of the same type (japanese vegetable cleaver). If Amazon is the culprit here, or Tradafor, I do not know. But the two purchases were not of the same knife.Hope this review gives an idea about the recently received knife in any case.

Came dull
Comes with a plastic covering that you'd think would be on there to protect you from a super sharp blade. This knife came out of the case practically BLUNT.It was dangerously dull.It could definitely NOT pass the paper test. You'll have to spend extra money to have it professionally sharpened. I may update if it atleast HOLDS an edge afterit's been sharpened.

After 18 months, still amazing
This has become my go to knife. I use it for nearly everything. It's proven itself durable and easy to care for. And, because of the single bevel, sharpening the edge is super simple.More than anything, the ergonomics are just fantastic. It's well weighted, and when held correctly, very comfortable. For most tasks, I hold the knife steady by firmly pinching the base of the spine with my thumb an index finger, while using the rest of my fingers and palm to grip the actual handle. This technique was taught to me by a Japanese chef who first introduced me to usuba style knives. This simple change in grip, along with this knife, have made me much more adept in my everyday slicing, chopping and hacking. So, the knife is durable, easy to sharpen and it's reasonably priced. It's nearly perfect. My one small complaint is the handle is a little too smooth. A little bit of texture would be appreciated. But even with that critique it's a five star knife.
