Works okay ... will need to use in conjunction with other tools.
I am starting to find that vinyl dust solutions are not a 'catch all' and need to be stacked to be used together. If you told me a year ago that I'd be buying $15 or $20 record cleaning tools which look like something you'd be at the dollar store, I'd have said you were crazy. Yet here I am rolling what is basically a $15 lint brush across my vinyl.Previously, I purchased a record cleaning brush which basically pushed dust out of the grooves (to some degree) and away from the record ... only to leave a linear strip of dust which was then electromagnetically charged and hard to remove from the record. This was unacceptable because it was basically just lining up the dust vs. removing it from the surface. Enter the record roller. This thing won't clean dust out of the grooves of a record as well as a brush ... so I use my $20 brush to clean the record for a few turns and then do a quick roll over the line of dust with the $15 record roller. Quite a process, quite expensive, but I don't think that one tool or the other will work well on its own. If I had to choose one over the other, I'd say the record roller would be my choice over the brush. I do worry a bit about it leaving a tacky residue on the surface which will then attract more dust (this time sticky dust!) or worse, leave a little tacky slime on the record. I am sure that after I use this on a record, it will attract more dust and paper dust than if I didn't. Not sure if its because of tacky residue or electromagnetic charging. It's amazing how much even brand new records attract sleeve paper dust or particles of dust from the air which results in the dreaded popping and crackle, especially with a sensitive stylus. As for how well this works ... after 2-4 records, I can see the dust all over the surface of the record roller and it becomes not sticky. At which point, I run it under some warm water and roll it around once or twice. Within a few minutes, it's sticky again. Why did I purchase this one vs. the others? It includes a plastic case. Maybe the other ones do too ... but this one specifically mentions the case and believe me ... the case is a necessity with this! Overall, this thing (if used for any other purpose than record cleaning) would be $1 - $2 at a toy store or dollar store. It's cheap Chinese made plastic and nothing more. Because audiophiles who spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on equipment are a different breed, they can easily be fleeced for $15 for this.Do you need it? Kind of ... Do you wish you didn't ... for sure! As mentioned, this alone won't remove fingerprints, smudges or dust from the inner grooves of records. It will dispatch a top layer of dust or paper particles and save you from some crackle or pops, I guess it's the best tool for under $20 you can buy for record cleaning but in no way will do everything you need to get your vinyl pristine.

LP Brush/Felt Alternative
The Record Roller is basically a miniature version of the larger washable/reusable lint rollers sold for clothes and furniture. For vinyl records the box directions are to lightly grip the handle and gently position the roller on a record’s grooves for 2 to 3 rotations. To clean and reuse, simply rinse off in warm water, shake and allow to air dry. Do not use wet. This is not meant to be a deep cleaning instrument, only an alternative to the standard brush or felt type light debris record swipes. In other words it should not be used aggressively on a record to remove the grease from Friday’s fried chicken wings. If used aggressively if will leave marks on a record but will not provide any groove healing. Also, as with a felt or brush cleaner, using aggressively on a spinning platter will increase wear and tear on the belt and/or the motor. As an alternative to using felt or a record brush, I think that I still prefer the felt or a brush. And, using LP fluid cleaner, which should definitely not be used with the roller, adds greatly to effectiveness.

Definitely does the job.
This thing works exactly as described. You can see on the roller that it is picking up the dust on your record.Few things to be aware of though:1- for older or dustier records it does not remove dust that is deep in the grooves. You’ll need a brush or liquid cleaner for that, but once you’ve done that you shouldn’t need to it again so all you’ll need is the record roller.2- it takes a few tries to figure out how much pressure to put on the roller so that it’s light enough so the turntable spins properly, but hard enough to pick up the dust without “skating” on the record. Even when it skated on me it didn’t do any damage to the record so nothing to worry about there.3-The roller side is obviously heavier than the handle. This means that after you rinse it off you have to prop it up to dry otherwise it will pick up the dust or stick to what ever it’s drying on so it won’t be clean.None of these issues should stop you from using this. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to keep their record collection looking and sounding clean.

Belt driven? Use brush first.
If a belt turns your platter you're going to want to use the brush to get that line of crud then use the roller on the line of crud. Also works for spot cleaning (strands of hair, pieces of food, rare diamonds that may keep turning up) with the platter NOT spinning. It did stop the platter on a Pro-ject TT powered via the Music Hall Cruise Control 2.0. In order to get it to spin easily enough for belt-driven TTs with smaller motors I started thinking of bearings for skateboards, rollerblades etc. Okay so now the cost has gone way up & how are these bearings going to hold up under repeat exposure to tap water? The whole device is now also larger & hence shipping more expensive. So I returned to my brush - roller technique satisfaction.I did knock a star off for "easy to use" because the unit needs to be stored in the included plastic case. That clear plastic case can be made easier to open without exploding the cost of production. Record Roller 2.0? I'd start with ideas on that case. One last note. I didn't feel comfortable making the blanket statement that the roller will stop all platters on belt-driven turntables because I did not test all belt-driven turntables. A reasonable solution to this is clear. If the company behind this fine product were to ship a VPI Titan to my home I'd conduct the proper testing (for no charge) & feel confident coming to a broader conclusion. Think on it. No rush.

This appears to be magical alien technology
This is another one of those "I rarely write product reviews" reviews, but I am blown away by the efficacy of this product and it deserves a big ol' enthusiastic shoutout.I have one record in particular that despite numerous wet washings (and numerous other techniques I could find online short of buying an expensive vacuum machine) was so littered with pops and clicks it was fairly unlistenable. I was about to throw the record away the other day and just order a new copy when I remembered this product. I looked it up, read a few reviews again and thought "Why not? Trying that is cheaper than buying a new record... so let's see if it works."I am floored. I tested the record again before using my new Record Roller, and there was the same gnarly crackling awfulness as before. I gave it a pretty thorough rolling with this little sticky wonder, dropped the stylus on the record, and... virtually silent. VIRTUALLY SILENT! The record needs another pass because it was apparently littered with debris that no amount of wet-washing was able to handle, but this li'l guy... it's just beautiful.I am thrilled with my purchase.
