Hurrah, a non-plastic saucer that holds up to abuse and keeps on ticking!
I looked for good sleds to bring on our only trip to the snow this year; I wanted to be able to take advantage of "wild snow" along the way in case we saw a good sledding spot, and make sure that our kids + friend could sled at the same time. My search was limited by size (it needed to fit into the hatchback of our smallish car, which meant it had to be less than 40"). We ended up road-testing three different kinds:--Snow Sled Kids Winter Plastic Saucer--Flexible Flyer Steel Saucer--Downhill Sprinter Toboggan Snow Sled By Slippery RacerThe winner? The last one: The toboggan-style sled offered the most control, and while small at 35" long, was still big enough to fit two small 10-year-olds. The plastic held up well to lots of use on rugged terrain. However, a close second-best was the Flexible Flyer metal saucer, which was very sturdy and had a curved bottom (similar to other plastic saucers). And HUGE PLUS for not being plastic....we saw so many broken plastic sleds littering the slopes. Surprisingly, in terms of cost, it was just about the same as the two other plastic options we bought. It's heavier than the plastic versions but that should only be a consideration if you're hiking a considerable distance. The Snow Sled Kids Winter Plastic Saucer was our least favorite. It has a flat bottom, so if you're sledding on a gentle slope, it doesn't move and you have to push yourself to the bottom with your feet. We saw other people using more typical curved plastic saucers that handled the same gentle slope well. However, the flat-bottomed saucer did provide welcome friction when going down a steep, icy slope. But the kids preferred the toboggan anyway since they could ride at the same time.

Fun & sturdy classic toy!
Grandkids asked for a pair of these and I shopped around a lot. There are plenty of places charging twice this much! So this seller is a great choice. As for the product it's great. There's something wholesome about a toy that's not made of plastic. And I think these will outlive any plastic sled. Sure they may end up with some dents but so what, they'll still work with a dent, unlike a plastic one that would crack if it hit a rock and eventually fall apart.I noticed some reviewer had one come with the handle not secured so I took ours out of the box and inspected them the minute they arrived (happy to have read his advice because otherwise I'd likely have just left them in the box til they were given to the kids). Don't be careless and end up accepting a faulty one. But that goes for any product.I just wish they came in multiple colors, so we could tell which one belongs to whom. I guess customizing them with stickers would be a good idea.
