Finger Pinch Guard by Wittle. Wish we had these for our kids in the 80s.
We babysit our twin toddler grandchildren once a week. They are both starting to walk and are exploring everything. Shopping for life's second "child proofing" cycle I spotted these foam rubber bumpers at a local big-box lumber/hardware store. I liked them so much I went back for more a couple of weeks later but they had disappeared from the shelves and with no apparent plan for restocking them. Shame! So I visited Walmart (they carried them but were out of stock) and several drug store chains. Nothing, so off to the web! I found these at Wittle through Amazon Smile, ordered them, and had them within 3 days. These are made of high-density rubber foam and slide over the end of the door with good grip on smooth paint or varnish. I believe they are closed cell as well which means they are probably washable and won't act like sponges in the unlikely event they get dirty. They provide a good one inch gap between the door and the jamb to protect those tiny fingers. You can locate then anywhere on the door edge and I would recommend mounting them above the toddler's reach. Check to make sure that older door doesn't flex enough to undo the protection if the Guard is installed higher! The Guards pull right off if you need to actually close a door and they are small enough not to take up much space on a shelf or countertop. I suppose we could take ours down weekly to allow them to recover shape, but most of them have been left up since we installed them with no problems. Those that are removed do return to their original shape, and I believe if they ever lost their grip it could be restored with some light sanding of the grip area. They are so simple, effective, and easy to use that I highly recommend them.
