Enjoyable & very useful but no connectivity or memory
I'm a lawyer and write a lot - to organize my thoughts, take down notes, quickly jot down an idea for later, and all. And this device would have served my purpose puuurrfectly, but for its inherent limitations (more on that later). It has decent dimensions. The writing background is jet-black in color on which you can use the non-capacitive 'stylus'/pen to write. The written content appears in green color which is a good contrast against the black background, very good thinking. The 'stylus'/pen is actually something that looks and holds just like a pen but with a non-capacitive tip made of ordinary plastic, shaped like the tip of a ball-point pen. That means, no need for changing tips like a real stylus. Since its non-capacitive, and not touch screen, any piece of plastic will work (though any sharp ones will scratch the 'screen').Palm marks are not too much of a problem. There are indeed some palm smudges but not too many and definitely not a deal breaker. The erase function is an all-or-none affair. You cannot erase selective area of the screen/text. A press of a button erases the entire screen in one go, kinda like start with a clean slate again.Uses a small button cell, like the ones used on computer motherboard CMOS. if your erase function is not working, pull out the battery tray chamber and remove the plastic film protecting the battery at the first time use.Now the limitations. For me, the biggest, most restrictive limitation is that I cannot import my notes from it to the PC or any other device. Of course, it's not a complaint against the device; it does what it says it does. But I wish they had added that functionality in a higher, costlier variant, because stuff like Sony e-ink digital paper is insanely priced at excess of 1 Lakh as US import. There's no memory at all and no way to connect to another device - no connectivity, whether bluetooth, wifi or usb cable. If you wish to go for a more useful note taking device using e ink, search for Mobiscribe on Amazon.com, the principal portal for Amazon. They're running in the range of Rs.14-15,000 (without the import duties and shipping) for 6.8" with memory and connectivity. The one by ReMarkable is 13" but too costly, around Rs.40,000. Stay absolutely far, far away from Sharp Memo Pad; that's a piece of trash at ~15,000 (without the import duties and shipping).

Pretty durable, great for kids to doodle, screen is dark for my liking
I'm writing review after more than 2 months.I actually bought it to both use it as a rough note book and for doodling with my baby.My first impression was not that great. Our eyes being so used to lighted up screens of smart phones, laptops, notepads and all ,this ruffpad screen appears so dark and dull and I find myself straining at the screen initially. It took me some time getting used to the dark screen. Just a thought : Won't it have been better if it write in white against the black background instead of green ??I thought of returning it but hubby says just keep it for baby to play with.I bought this when my baby is only 15 months but she already knew how to hold pencil correctly though she doesn't know how to write or draw anything legible of course. Now she's 18 months and she loves to play with this, just scribble nonsense on it. Initially she found the delete button a little stiff for her delicate fingers but now she loves to delete whatever is there on screen. Why I'm writing about my baby using it is because I want to highlight its durability! almost everyday she plays with it and step on it on her play mat multiple times a day and I feared it won't even last a month, but surprisingly its still as good as new with all that rough handling! This is the best feature so far.Otherwise I still don't like it's dark screen! The pen would have been better if it is not flat .It's very sensitive, writes smoothly. In fact my baby use other objects to draw on it, even her nails can write on it.But of course it's own pen is the smoothest.I bought it at Rs.399 which is very reasonable. This will be very useful for students or people who are more of pen, paper person for writing temporary notes or for kids who loves to doodle. Just give it to your kids without doubting it's durability,it sure can handle some pretty rough handling!

Pretty much a toy. Can be useful for Children to improve handwriting and drawing skills.
This digital notepad is a very simple device that lets you do only two things:1. Scribble, draw...etc with the attached pen2. Erase what you wrote/drawIt does nothing else (and don't even think about asking it to save the writings/drawings on a memory card. It has no "ports" on it to insert anything, not even a charge port). For this price, it is not fair expect it to do more than this. My son uses it to simply scribble whatever comes to his mind. He draws pictures, writes alphabets...etc. This way it provides the free hand that is needed for children. I bought the 8 Inch version. The 10 or 12 inch version might be even better for children.However...1. The erase button erases the ENTIRE screen. We cannot erase a part of the screen.2. The brightness of the written/drawn material is not enough to be comfortable to eyes. I would have liked a brighter screen. But given the cost of this device and considering the capacity of the battery it comes with (yes, it comes with a battery, which I guess can be replaced), the brightness can be lived with. All in all, it is a nice little "thing" for small learning children to scribble, draw...etc. It is more of a toy. If used properly, it might help children to practice good handwriting. But still, I would like the screen to be little more brighter for it to be totally useful. Children might initially get excited about it and use it for a few days. Then due to lack of adequate brightness, they might not find it much attractive anymore and abandon it. This is what my son did!!If you are getting this at a very low price during any Amazon sale (such as Great Indian Sale), then by all means go for it and give it to small children to "play".NOTE: Only 1 pen comes in the box. I noticed that we can write on this pad with finger nail :-)Hope this helps. If this review helped you make your purchase decision, press the HELPFUL button!! Thank you.
