Accessible Recipes - Wonderful Flavors
I first checked this cookbook out from the local library. I was so inspired by the content that I purchased it for myself and also gifted a copy to my half-Egyptian father-in-law.The author and chef present a unique take on middle eastern cuisine that isn’t just the same dishes from one country over with a new name as so many cookbook seem to do lately. There is enough uniqueness in the recipes that make them stand out as uniquely Egyptian. Our family has enjoyed coming together to cook from this cookbook both at our house and my in-laws.It is well presented and interesting in the stories and ingredients. I highly recommend it.

Amazing recipes, beautiful pictures- Makes a great gift!
I picked up this book looking to mix up our families recipes that had grown tired over the lockdown. I found Shahir's story interesting, and loved trying out the modern versions of Middle-Eastern/ North African cuisine. The recipes are mostly not too difficult for someone used to following instructions. And the pictures in the book are absolutely amazing! Really makes you want to try different recipes. I liked it so much that I ended up gifting a copy for a friend.

Very few traditional recipes
As a half Egyptian, I was hoping for plenty of the core Egyptian dishes to cook. I would have been happy with a modern twist on the dishes I know, but the problem is, they are just not there. There are lots of lovely looking recipes in this book, but it's not for anyone who wants to cook the Egyptian dishes they know.

Great modern Egyptian cookbook (as written in the title)
I was hesitant on purchasing this book due to the poor review listed here. I am happy that I recognized how subjective and unfair that rating was and got the book anyway. This book is not for purists. I understand wanting authentic recipes but this cookbook is marketed to Westerners (written by a Canadian Egyptian) and I don't know about you guys but personally I am not planning on making pigeon recipes at home so I'm glad that "street food" meal was omitted from the book. The book includes many traditional Egyptian recipes such as Mahshi, Baladi Bread, Feteer, Sambousek, Mulukhiyah, Basbousa and many many more. The author has added his own twist on them, giving them a more interesting quality. I've already made 3 recipes from the book and they were all fantastic.I think this book is oozing with creativity and fills a void in the Arabian cookbook market. Also, major bonus points for having a gorgeous photo for every single recipe! This should be the new standard in 2021 and moving forward.
