Well made but too advanced for my almost 5 year old
It's a really well made game, durable for little ones with lovely illustrations but it's too advanced for my little one. He has only just started school and just getting to grips with numbers. He can't do addition and subtraction. While the rules are simple I had to read them through a few times before they made sense. I hoped there would be an alternative version of the rules for younger ones but while there is a variant it doesn't really make it simpler. My little one would not play he simply lost interest.I think this is one for when they are a bit older and start doing maths rather than just number recognition so it's going back into the cupboard for when it will be a bit more suitable.

Great education board game
This is a great education game to help young children with maths (adding and taking away).Fun illustrations which makes it appealing for children.Suitable for age 4yrs+.The aim of the game is to collect all 6 pieces of treasure and put them in your treasure chest. The game is very easy to play, each player selects 6 of the square tokens and places them in your treasure chest (number side up). Then each player takes it in turns to turn one of the rectangular tokens which will have a maths sum which the player has to work out and then see if they have the correct answer on their board, if they think they have the correct answer they can then turn the pieces over to check to see if the pieces match, if they do then they have earned a treasure piece for their chest. The player who collects all six of their treasure tokens first is the winner. This is a great way to help youngest with maths (although some younger children may struggle with some of the harder sums which they can't do on their hands). This is a very thought out game which my 6 year old enjoyed playing.Comes in a appealing box with all the game pieces and clear instructions. The quality of the game is excellent. Well made.Great value for money. Will look into the other number of education games this brand offers.Would highly recommend.

Shiver Me Timbers + Avast = ARgghhhhhhhh
Maths is not always people's sense of fun, but some kids love to play with simple sums. 'Math Pirates' is a great game for 3-6 year olds who are learning the basics in addition and subtraction. Firstly, it is an attractive game. Kudos must go to the illustrator as the game cards look awesome and are attractive and different. The game itself is simple enough once you get the hang of it. A player fills their game card with the number cards. You then take it in turns to pick a sum card. Does the answer match one on your board? Flip them and if the treasure is the same, you are right. The first one to get six correct answers and fill their treasure card wins. You can play it a couple of times in one go. The cards themselves and tokens are all made from a thick card. This game may not entertain a child who is not a maths fan, but as an educational tool it works really well and will be more fun for them than to sit down and do straight maths puzzles.

Not the most engaging of games
A simple idea that I hoped would grab the attention of my 6 year old who struggles a little with her maths. I set it all up and she really didn’t seem interested or taken in by the pictures. She didn’t look at it as a game. Each player takes a card and puts the answers face up on the spaces then selects a ‘face down’ sum and see if the answer matches what’s on their card. If they think they have the answer they can turn the answer over to see if it’s a match. The first player to turn over all their answers wins.I’m sure the more she plays the more she will begin to memorise the answers but it didn’t have that fun factor for us.The price is quite high in my opinion. The game itself is ok!

Nice game and will be good for family fun time too.
Basically, this is a great educational game for the kidsFrom age 4 upwards. The game play is remarkably short. The box says “10 - 20 minutes” for each game, and once you get used to the rules, we’ve found that some games can be even shorter. Regardless of the number of players, you work as a team, taking it in turns to deal yourself some cards, decide what to do with them, and act upon them. The aim is to collect four treasure pieces before the ghost piece reaches the top. The treasure distribution is random and if it falls in your favour, the game can be over really quite quickly.Apart from the fact that it can be a game for kids, it can aswell be used for family fun time.

Well designed game for early maths
This game is very well thought out and designed, enabling it to be just right and suitable for younger mathmaticians who are starting to understand addition but still need help and support with this. The game involves picking up treasure cards, on the back there will be a basic addition question. The players try to work out the answer and see if they have the correct number on their pirate board. If you have the correct number, when you turn it over the picture will match the picture on your treasure card and that means you win that treasure. The picture matching element serves to help kids self correct, and I found this so helpful for my 4 year old.The graphics and the quality of the playing pieces / cardboard etc is all lovely, and very well done.I would recommend this game if you have a child going into reception like mine, who is not confident in addition and could benefit from extra help.
