Great for any guitar player...
This is a must have for any DT fan that plays guitar. Whether or not you're capable of playing Petrucci solos (most aren't), the tab book is extremely useful for understanding the complexity and genius of John Petrucci. i highly recommend this product for guitar players or for people who enjoy understanding HOW things or organized/played.

Good buy
I think this is a great book for any novice or professional guitar player. Artwork was good, and the book was amazing. And no, not all of the books are by Joe Schmos. I have Metropolis Part 2's book, for instance, which was edited by John Petrucci himself.

Great transcription but some laziness throughout.
As with most tab books, the music notation is good but the tablature leaves something to be desired. There are several small issues in fingering positions, but really not as many as you'd expect, and the notes are all there. If you only read sheet music for guitar then you may be in trouble, since none of the songs are in standard tuning but the notation presents them all as they are. So, you're learning them all in E minor or nothing, unless you read tab. There is a bit of laziness with the articulation, a lot of palm mutes missing when there fairly obviously should be some, or saying 'light palm mute throughout' which is lame. Also uses recalled rhythm figures a bit too often, like in 'Endless Sacrifice' - the verse figure changes quite a bit verse to verse regarding which guitar plays what but there's some awkward notes explaining it all. Petrucci being Petrucci, this is better than anything you'll get online, but it's not perfect.

The book is crap. The notation is all written out as if it's in standard tuning while the tab is written in the tuning of the song.... All the songs are either in D or C on this and it really hinders the learning/practice aspect as far as sight reading unless you're practicing a transposed version in E which wouldn't sound good. As far as the tab is concerned the majority of it is right but if there are mistakes(some big, some small) you can't go by the notation. I go by reading music so it really is useless and will have to learn some of these by ear instead...

Mistakes left and right...
I have been playing guitar for over 15 years and have been into Dream Theater since Images And Words came out. All the tabs in this book (even in all the previous ones) have mistakes. I believe that the tabbers that do these books are Joe Shmoes that don't even listen to Dream Theater and just put something out just to put it out. If you want more acurate tabs for the songs, go to powertab archive and get them for free (tabbed by actual fans of the band)If I could, I would give a rating of 0 stars.......eh....the artwork is nice...... The one star goes for the packaging.
