The “Bird Girl”: The Story of a Sculpture by Sylvia Shaw Judson Paperback – December 14, 2005

I was hesitant to purchase this book as some reviews stated that it didn't really discuss the Bird Girl statue and just discussed the author's other works. That is simply not true. This book did a great job of diving into the whole history of the famous statue from it being commissioned work, the number of them made, who modeled for the statue and how it came about, the fact that the statue that appeared in Bonaventure wasn't an original, etc. Yes, the book does go into other works from the sculptor, which is also a great read. However, as advertised, the book goes into great detail about the Bird Girl statue.Anyone that is a fan of the Bird Girl statue, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, or the sculptor (Sylvia Judson) won't be disappointed.

I purchased this book because I wanted to know the history of a "Bird Girl" statue that I own. I bought the statue several years ago after having read John Berendt's book. In fact, I still have the book; will not allow anyone to remove it from my presence. Also, I have visited Savannah and the cemetery featured in the book.Finally, the REAL reason I bought the book about the sculpture is the fact that my status was damaged in a recent move from Alabama to Texas. I want to be sure the proper materials are used when I have it repairs (or I repair it).

Absolutley fantastic. It was a long wait in part due to covid. However the company was very responsive to my emails.I am an avid fan of midnight in the gatden of good and evil as well as loving Savannah.Having seen the original statue. this one is everything and more..

I've been a long time fan of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and wanted this for a long time. It's a quality statue and has a nice weight to it for outdoors. Beautiful! So happy to have it.

Thanks for the quality shipping too. Arrived perfectly, even with new paint smell. Looks perfect in the cove and garden she has in the house. Trust me, if you DO buy an outside version, get a metal version if in the intense sun. These are best for indoors and that's where we are keeping this lovely statue.

The book was very enjoyable--a good mystery; I even bought the statue for my flower garden.

I had ordered the large Bird Girl Statue here on Amazon and it is beautiful. I wanted to read the "story"...so, I ordered the book entitled "The Bird Girl" thinking there was a story behind this lovely statue, like maybe there really was a little girl who fed the birds in Savannah, etc. So, the book arrived and it is a book about the person who sculpted the statue and all her other work is in there also. Has nothing to do with Savannah and the bird girl except to tell who was the model she used to make the statue. If you are thinking there is some wonderful story of a real life little girl who resided in Savannah and fed birds, then just know there is no story about this darling little girl . It's mostly a biography of the artist. I was disappointed and was a waste of money for me. Title is misleading to say the least.
