Wonders of the 1930's Art World in Paris
A well researched emotional read as Jack leaves Australia and heads to London, a graduation gift from his parents. His whole world shifts as he meets eccentrics who live in an art colony. Can't wait to read Book 2 - this is a primer on art appreciation.

I was happy to spend this time in Paris
The four main characters are so fully fleshed out that you feel you know them. I want the best for all of them and I’m looking forward to the next book.

An enjoyable debut novel!
After Jack Tomlinson received the astonishing gift from his parents, it wasn’t long before he set sail on a cruise ship, bound for England. Six months in London, staying with his mother’s sister and her husband – Jack couldn’t believe it was happening. It was 1928 and Jack lived with his parents in Melbourne. His father had a job lined up for him, but this trip of a lifetime and his painting and sketching would expand with the new places to see and visit. Jack had great talent but had never been taught; he also didn’t see how good he was. But that was to change. The meeting with Margaret Bell on board the ship would prove to be fortuitous as she introduced Jack into the art world. An artist herself, Margaret had confidence and an ability to make friends with anyone she met. After some time in London, Jack was enrolled into the Académie Julian in Paris by a good friend of Margaret’s. They knew Jack would go far. And he did, meeting another young artist, Andrés, at their daily classes. Andrés had a twin sister who worked in their aunt’s café and the three of them became firm friends. Would Jack return to Australia when it was time to leave? Or would fate take him in a different direction? The Sun Rose in Paris is the first in the Portraits in Blue series, and the debut novel for Aussie author Penny Fields-Schneider and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Beautiful descriptions filled the pages - across the ocean, throughout London then on the streets of Paris. Jack was a very naïve young man when he started his adventures, and I’m looking forward to seeing him mature further when I read #2. A satisfying read, The Sun Rose in Paris is one I recommend.

Loved it!
I loved the imagery the author created. I was brought into the world of art in the same way Jack was. I loved the story of friendship and love, a love for each other and a love for creating success and their art. I look for to reading the next book..

While traveling on the ship to England, he befriends a young lady who is impressed by his drawings. She plans for him to meet her family and a friend to see his art. good until abrupt ending
I hate series. Why not finish the book? Just as you see possibilities for the characters, the author leaves us hanging.

A feast for the senses!
This is a writer who brings the visual senses to live from the written word. I was entirely captivated as I read this story of a young Australian man who leaves his home in Melbourne to sail to London as gifted by his parents. The idea behind their gift is to give him a three-month trip after his graduation from school and prior to him taking up a position in finance at his father's firm.Jack is an artist at heart and is very good. His life, though, has been carefully planned out for him to basically follow in his father's footsteps which Jack feels is a path he must accept. In the shop to London Jack meets a fellow artist who encouraged his artistic side after seeing him sketching and painting on board. This is a life-altering meeting which opens up the world of the early 20th century bohemian art culture in Europe, opening his senses to life and art expressionThe writing is excellent. Descriptions of the various art movements and scenes and locations is breathtaking. The characters are richly described. Many are famous.I have already downloaded the next book of this series and want to begin reading it immediately as the storyline has progressed to hold my interest and wish to continue this fascinating story.I recommend to readers of historical fiction, art and romance.

Sweep back in time to the art world of Paris in the 1930's
I loved the glimpse into Paris of that era, the people, the fashions, the history--it's famous world of artists. The romance was also lovely--the only thing I didn't like is that it completely left us dangling at the end of the book--I know they are trying to entice you to read further books with those same characters, but....
