Excellent LP from Floating Points, but again- problems with package!
While I really love this LP from Floating Points, I have to (again) complain about the package it arrived in... Rather than ship this in an LP box (which protects the LP from almost all damage), this was shipped in a large box. This allowed the cover of the LP to become dented at all four corners. I've complained about this before, but to (obviously) no avail.

A digital 'Kind of Blue' for the 21st century
Sam Shepherd's Floating Points debut 'Eleania' is 5 years in the making. Opener "Nespole" uses the sounds of a failing Skype connection to build up to an ominous synth rhythm. 10-minute "Silhouettes (I, II, III)" takes 3 lavish left turns through a UK jazz club. The title track has a lunar ambiance that recalls Radiohead's "Treefingers". "Argente" and "Thin Air" are dissonant reflections of each other, adding up to the glitchy centerpiece of the record. "For Marmish" is music for a midnight drive around the streets of London. "Peroration Six" picks up where "Silhouettes" left off, ending the album with a powerful chaotic swash.

Well worth the gable of purchase and I throughly enjoyed every cut
This does truly float. Well worth the gable of purchase and I throughly enjoyed every cut. Nice to see and hear organized electrons on parade. Cactus Ken

Didn't see this one coming...
Mesmerizing. Has some of the triphop acoustic drumming you find with Bonobo's Jack Baker, some open ambient passages, and some groove/trance compositions. I came to Amazon to see if anyone had reviewed this yet because I go through so much music I never think to review music at all, but...this is special. Somebody else other than me has to be living inside this like a dream, right? When I saw the one reviewer call it a modern-day Kind of Blue, I laughed at the fact that as absurd as any comparison to Kind of Blue might sound at first, I think s/he might be right.

Timeless Classic from the kind of future we all want
My favorite album since Holden's "Inheritors." Majestic electronic jazz compositions that leave me feeling like a deer in headlights. Find somewhere to listen to the full tracks online and then see if you don't find yourself sucked into the immaculately crafted world that Mr. Shepherd has constructed here.
