The Definitive Compendium. 100 stars!
Straight away, I need to review the reviewers!1-star: Laughable in it's absurdity; "1.0 out of 5 stars. A black and white cover for a design book?" ...yet buyer went on to add; "...[cover} is the most creative thing about it." Zinger!!! (Sounds like it wasn't their cup of tea.)5-stars: Top review; "5.0 out of 5 stars. Beautiful, must have book! Buy it for yourself, buy it for a friend." 5 stars to all the many other 5-star reviewers. To the 2-3-4-stars reviewers: Yes, a few, (very few) of the photos are less than stellar quality, because they were shot from previously printed material where the original transparency is not available. To the objection that "It's a History Book, Folks" ... Yes indeed, that's what 'The 100 Most Important Designers of the Past 100 Years' will get you...a large, lavishly illustrated history book. One may disagree with a few of the choices.... Perhaps a designer whose work you don't like, or maybe a room you would hate to live in ... but taken overall, this is the best overview of designers and interior design one could imagine. A designer's lesson on nearly every page... even if one disagrees with their philosophy.Beautifully printed on heavy paper. The vast majority of images in full color, full page spreads. This book is a major achievement --JC

Beautiful, must have book! Buy it for yourself, buy it for a friend.
This book should be in the personal library of every student of interior design and everyone interested in the decoration of houses. There are so many iconic rooms to see from all the big guns of design, beginning with post-Victorians leading up to current designers. Each featured designer has a brief bio, just enough information to spark ones interest in finding out more. While the contents of the book alone are worth the price and would make any interior design fan very satisfied, Vendome has been even more generous by giving great care to the look of the book. With outstanding cover art by Celia Fuller, “Inspired Design” will make any stack of books instantly more stylish. I highly recommend this book! The only down side to this book is that it will reveal the secret “inspiration” for many of today’s top designers and will expose them as completely derivative (not that I mind imitation, a good room is worth repeating). It just may make some of today’s designers who didn’t make Jennifer Boles’ 100 list seem less impressive. Billy Baldwin’s La Fiorentina on page 11 looks like it could have been a brand new room featured in a home in one of this year’s issues of Veranda magazine. Baldwin designed it in 1969 and it STILL looks gorgeous with not one item looking dated. Buy this book, you won’t be disappointed!
