GEDORE Ochsenkopf OX 648 H-2508 Axe Split-Quick ROTBAND-Plus with Hickory Handle 80 cm, 2500 g

After a Douglas Fir blew down in my yard last December, the arborist guys left it in various rounds of various thickness. It was really green much of the base was simply too heavy to move. Knowing some summer sun would give me some chance of splitting some of the smaller rounds I broke out my collection of trusty axes and mauls. My son and I had at it yesterday. I didn't want to make the drive for nothing so I bought some insurance in the form of the Ochsenkopf OX 648 H-2508 Axe Split-Quick. I also took along a Fiskars splitting maul which gets great reviews. My son (32) opted for his grandpappy's 8lb maul. I used the new Ox Head. He felt he was doing fine- not an experienced woodsman. But witnessing him taking to many swings on what should have been double taps, I handed him the OX. He literally gasped at how much better the result was. Less swings, faster wood piles. The Fiskar, being lighter, did well on smaller rounds/thicknesses, but overall the splitting was quite a success. I've split firewood for 50 years. Best tool for the job IMHO.

I like the look and feel of the axe. It feels high quality and I like how it looks somewhat unique and reminds me of a fireman's axe. It may be a little heavy for someone looking for an axe for bush-crafting or for taking out in the woods to hack away at trees and branches but the weight works well for splitting logs for firewood.

I ended up swapping out the handle , and I didn't care for the head attachment system or the steel protector sleeve. The weight and profile of the head is great. Awesome for splitting...

Tenia dudas por el precio pero la verdad es que corta mucho mejor que culquier hacha de las que tenia mas baratas y me ahorra muchísimo tiempo

Ich bin höchst zufrieden mit dieser Spaltaxt in Atomskriegsausführung*.Bei meiner alten Ochsenkopf Spaltaxt ist nach Jahren der Stiel unter dem Kopf abgebrochen (war noch eine Ausführung ohne Stielschutz). Nach nur mäßig erfolgreichen Neueinstielungsversuchen meinerseits habe ich mit mich mit Blick nach Osten sowie in meinen Öltank dazu entschieden, in ein neues Spaltinstrument zu investieren.Die Axt ist recht schwer, Kopf wiegt 2,5 kg. 700 Gramm mehr als meine alte Spaltaxt. Aber das ist für einen alten weißen Mann trotzdem noch gut beherrschbar, dafür hat man auch deutlich mehr Spaltleistung.Ich habe in der letzten Woche 4 Stämme (2 Eiche, 1 Buche, 1 Robinie) auf 35 cm Scheite gespalten. Die Eichen hatten unten 50 cm Durchmesser, die Axt ging durch wie Butter. Nur selten mußte man 2 Hiebe ausführen. Bei dünneren Stammteilen reicht es manchmal nur 30 cm auszuholen, den Rest erledigt die Axt durch ihr Gewicht. Letztendlich spart man so auch Kraft, trotz des höheren Gewichts.Einziger Nachteil - ich habe 2 meiner Buchenhackklötze unabsichtlich mit gespalten :-)Würde ich jederzeit wieder kaufen. Ich habe sie Vladimir getauft.Eigentlich könnte Ochsenkopf seinen Produkten auch gleich mal einprägsamere Namen geben, wer redet schon mit seinem Holzheizerkumpel von "Spalt-Fix-Axt mit Rotband-Plus Stielbefestigung". Hier wäre z.B. Thor oder Mjölnir ein geeigneter Produktname.* Das Gütesiegel Atomkriegsausführung wird ausschließlich von mir verliehen und ausschließlich für Produkte, die aufgrund ihrer robusten Bauweise vermutlich nach einem Atomkrieg immer noch einsatzbereit sind.

Compre esta hacha porque tenia mucha leña de pino seca que partir y con una maza cuña tradicional me estaba encontrando que con algunos troncos con mas nudos no era capaz de abrirlos ya que la maza no penetraba bien o rebotaba, esta hacha me ha solucionado el problema y en mi opinion tener una maza cuña tradicional de 3kg con esta hacha de 2.5 kg es una gran combinación. El problema lo tengo en la calidad de los acabados del producto que he recibido por el precio que he pagado. El mango viene con una capa de barniz bastante gorda y rugosa en algunos puntos que he tenido que quitar completamente para poner aceite de linaza y hacer la herramienta mas agradable al tacto y ademas, aunque la orientacion del grano es correcta, en mi caso el mango tiene una veta mas oscura que recorre todo el mango que no me acaba de inspirar confianza ademas de tener un par de nudos en el pomo. El filo no venia bien perfilado por lo que he tenido que ajustarlo con una lima para dejarlo simetrico y luego afilarlo con una piedra. La funda también deja bastante que desear, es de plastico y no esta muy bien acabada pero es verdad que hace su funcion. Todos estos detalles en mi opinion serian pasables en una herramienta de la mitad de lo que vale esta pero por el precio creo que la marca deberia ofrecernos mas atencion al detalle. También creo que hay algunos detalles en cuanto a la ergonomia que podrian ser mejorables como el angulo del pomo que hace que quede demasiado alto y no sea comodo del todo y que el collarin de proteccion (que es muy util) fuera mas redondeado por la parte trasera para que sea mas comodo al levantar el hacha antes de dar el golpe. Es verdad que la herramienta funciona bien y estos detalles no son fallos garrafales por lo que si recomiendo su compra

Essendo, oltre che un utilizzatore, un appassionato di scuri e accette, ed in particolare di quelle svedesi, ho approcciato questa con qualche perplessità. Beh, mi sono subito ricreduto al primo colpo su un ceppo. Dopo un utilizzo intenso su legno di quercia, posso dire che è veramente ottima, con una capacità di penetrazione impressionante. Ma il vero enorme vantaggio stá nel collegamento tra manico e scure e la fascia di protezione.
