Works well, very easy to use
I had a 500GB Seagate 3.5" SATA drive that I managed to fill up. It was my computer's second HDD, just used for file storage (photos, videos, word processor and spreadsheet files mostly), so the computer itself was just fine with a separate C: drive still having plenty of room for Windows 7 and my installed apps. But I needed to get a larger second drive for the discretionary files.I installed a 1TB drive, but needed to get all the files from my old 500GB drive onto the new drive. I bought this DiGiYes USB-to-SATA converter for this purpose. It worked perfectly. All I did was plug the converter onto the back of the old drive, plug the included USB cable between the converter and my computer's available USB connector, and the included wall-wart power supply into the jack on the converter. The computer immediately recognized the old drive and it was simple to drag and drop the old drive's contents over to the new drive. There was no need to know anything, configure anything, or do anything other than what I described above. The 500GB transfer took about 6 hours. This product consists of the converter itself, the USB cable and the wall-wart power supply. There is no documentation in the box, but it is obvious what plugs into where, and at least on Windows 7 it was entirely plug-and-play with the computer recognizing the SATA drive connected to the converter just as easily as if I had plugged in a flash drive/thumb drive. The included USB cable is quite short, not much more than 6" long, but it was enough to allow me to rest the old drive on top of my computer and still let the USB cable reach the USB connector on the front of the computer. The cable on the wall-wart power supply is perhaps 5' long. The wall-wart power supply provides power to run the connected SATA drive as well as the converter itself. The only indication on the converter is a simple blue LED. It lights up when everything is connected together, and it flashes when data is being transferred.

First unit failed after 2 weeks, second is still going strong.
Update: The replacement has been working well for over a month, so I've bumped my rating from 2 to 4 stars. It would have been 5 stars if not for the failure of the first unit.Original review: Initially, it worked exactly as advertised. I used it to copy about 8TB of data over a 2-week period with fantastic transfer speeds. Then it failed. Fortunately it's till within Amazon's return period so I'm sending it back and trying again. I will update this review if my replacement lasts longer.

....
I bought this to run my 2.5" laptops CD/DVD RW multi drive externally since I don't have an optic drive tray in my desktop PC case but it didn't work it's got the wrong plug for it. It did work for my 2.5" HDD from my laptop without the power supply plugged in though..So it does work just not for what I have and intended to do, yet anyway. Guess I will be buying and trying a normal CD/DVD drive next....

Plugged in the power and it fired up nicely. Speeds were good as well
Worked perfectly on my old desktop hard drive. Plugged in the power and it fired up nicely. Speeds were good as well. I used a different one my friend had for a laptop hard drive backup but this one includes a power supply which powers desktop sized hard drives. If you don't need the power supply you can find cheaper options but I am glad to have the power as an option for different types of drives. Thanks!

Best SATA to USB adapter of this type
I've bought a lot of SATA to usb 3.0 adapters in the past few years. This one by far is the best I've gotten. I've used some of the desktop ones, but those take up a lot of space, this can easily be tossed in a drawer when it's not in use.

Postive experience, would recommend product and seller to others.
Postive experience, would recommend product and seller to others.Over the years, I've accumulated a number of internal hard drives from old PCs and laptops. The application for this product was for creating a small rack containing all of my old hard drives in one place and plug them into a separate rack containing Odroids, Raspberry, Banana, and Orange PI's run combinations of ftp and minidlna servers.

Works as advertised
Picked up this adapter to replace a busted FreeAgent GoFlex Desk 2Tb external drive base where the ports kept falling into the base itself due to how it was made. Fits like a charm and works great! It's a much less expensive alternative to a new base, and infinitely more reliable.

it's really easy to install and it's really small and practical
It works perfectly, it's really easy to install and it's really small and practical. I've seen some other kits that do the same with many cables and they look really cumbersome. This one you plug it in the back of the SATA unit, then you plug the power adaptor and the USB and you're ready to go.

Great Product Works Right Out The Box
I got this today very quick delivery , I attached an old 500gb hard drive from an old pc which still had an operating system on it , drive did not show up in my computer but was showing in disk management as offline because it has a signature collision with another disk , this is not a problem with your DIGIYes as it works fine to resolve this see below1) Make sure your disk is attached to DiGiYes with power supply on and usb cable attached to the pc2) use diskpart on command prompt3) list disk4) select disk x x = disk number5) type uniqueid disk it will give you a number and make a note of the number as in below, do this for each disk number disk 0 c820c821 disk 1 b62dd832 disk 2 c820c8216) you will see disk 0 and disk 2 have the same id number7) type list disk 2 then enter8) then type uniqueid disk id=c820c829 i changed the 1 to a 9 at the end as disk 2 had same id as disk 1 then press enter9) load disk management ,As the drive will still show as offline ,right click where it says disk 2 to the left of the blue bar and click Online , your disk will now be ready to use.10) All disk numbers i have used are from my pc , your disk numbers may be different11) If your not sure on reading this , use this utube link for step by step video [...]

Works Well. Construction Iffy.
Works as advertised. I got around 100MB / sec write speed, and 300MB / sec read speed from a laptop SSD hard drive. Using the power adaptor, I successfully got it working with a full size 3.5 inch SATA desktop hard drive and also a DVD drive.Construction quality seems a little erratic. Mine rattled precariously within its enclosure, with about 1 mm of 'give' when testing the wobble. That kind of stuff bothers me !! I was contemplating returning it for a replacement, but in the end decided to glue it in two places (UHU glue to the edges of the power socket and SATA junctions). Now it no longer wobbles. Took an extra half an hour of my time, which I shouldn't have had to spend. Anyway, it works still, and there is pleasingly less wobble when connected to a hard drive.

Easy to use adapter - with faster USB 3 speeds!
This adapter is perfect for accessing and transferring files from SATA HDD and SSD drives. As I have upgraded my PC and Laptops over the years, I have ended up with a collection of hard drives containing old information. This easy to use adapter allows me to access, and change, the content on these drives. It works with both PCs and Macs straight out of the box - no need to install any special software or drivers. It includes a power adapter which is required when you are using it with a larger 3.5" hard driver. I have successfully used this adapter for smaller 2.5" SSD drives without the power adapter without any issues.Unlike many other similar adapters, this uses USB 3. USB 3 provides higher read and write speeds - especially useful when you are using it with a SSD. USB 2 updaters are not able to fully utilise the high speeds a SSD provides, instead limiting you to the slower USB 2 speeds. The packaging is easy to open, and allows you to neatly place the adapter back into the box for easier storage.I recommend this for anybody wanting to access the content on SATA 2.5" and 3.5" hard drives - especially for those who those with a SSD, who can use take advantage of the USB 3 speeds.

Works Perfectly
I initially tried to save money by buying one of the cheaper ones without a power cable and it didn't work. The cheaper ones can't draw enough power to run a drive so save yourself time and just get a powered version first time around. The previous one couldn't run a 320 gig drive, this one is powering a 1TB drive very nicely. And before anyone says, yes both drives were 2.5"

Does what it says on the tin. reasonable price.
Very nice little adapter (power supply is actually bigger than adapter!. Worked well for copying data off a laptop hd that I removed. USB 3.0 is critical for copying any large amounts of data - which is present on this adapter.
