Good glue
Good hide glue. Long open time. Lubricates joints. Loosens up when heated.

convenience!
Most carpenters or instrument builders use hide glue crystals which need to be dissolved and heated to use, which requires extra equipment for mixing and heating the mix - which can be very messy... So I was thrilled to discover that Titebond offers this ready -made hide glue. Convenient!

Arrived and Performed Exactly as Expected.
Arrived on time, which is consistent with all Amazon Prime orders. This glue has a longer set up time than PVC and does not swell the mortises and tenons. These two characteristics are highly desirable when doing complex glue ups. Hide glue is also much easier to clean up - just a cloth moistened with water - another desirable trait, as long as your project is not exposed to a damp environment. This was my first time using hide glue and I found no need to slather it on, I just "painted" it on the mortises and tenons with a small brush, also this stuff is less drippy than PVC, it clings to the pieces and generates less mess. Joints went together smoothly - hide glue is more slippery than PVC too. Hide glue might be fine for other applications but regular PVC is still cheaper for big panel glue ups where time is not an issue, water resiliency is important, or squeeze out is not an issue.

Can mostly substitute for a vacuum press
I've done a lot of veneering with a vacuum bag and veneer glue. I used a veneer hammer with TiteBond Hide Glue, which works at room temperature. I was able to achieve results on par with a vacuum bag, but with a catch. The hide glue, applied to both substrate and veneer, was tacky enough to start with. This veneer hammer smoothed the veneer against the surface. I used both the wide flat section and the more focused square "pointy" end. The veneer should be heartwood side down but my veneer was taped sections with one strip heartwood side up. When wet by the hide glue, it bowed upwards, rather than down. I used the veneer hammer to get that section flat and against the substrate but it did keep popping up a bit. I ended up putting the piece veneer-side down with weights on it overnight. The veneer dried overnight and the resulting job was nice and tight against the substrate. Be very careful to not use too much of this hide glue, as it will leech through the veneer and be a pain to scrape off on the outward facing side. Seems a good coating of hide glue on the substrate and veneer with minimal squeeze-out ought to suffice.
