Restaurant quality hot and sour soup at home!
This is one of my best discoveries ever! I have always loved hot and sour soup in restaurants, particularly at a Mongolian Grill I used to frequent. I tried many times to duplicate the taste of their soup using recipes on the internet, packaged soup mixes, etc. (For a while, Swanson had a hot and sour broth that tasted quite good, but they stopped making it for some reason.)Nothing I made ever compared to what I could get in a restaurant, though. Something about the level of heat, the exact taste of the vinegar, and just the particular melding of flavors was seemingly impossible to get right. And then I saw this - reading the reviews convinced me to give it a try. WOW! This makes the best tasting soup I’ve ever had! I buy a 2lb package of stew beef at the store, cut it up into bite-size cubes, then brown it well in a large stockpot along with a chopped onion. Then I add beef broth (I usually make a batch using 100oz of broth and 10oz of soup base), and add a can of straw mushrooms, a can of regular mushrooms (stems and pieces, just to make it a “meatier” soup), a couple of small cans of bamboo shoots (save time by buying it in strips as opposed to slices), a little bit of black fungus for texture, and a package of extra firm tofu. Let it simmer for a while together, and you’ll have the best soup you’ve ever had, restaurant or not. We love reheating it for lunch for days, and it makes a great snack when you don’t feel like a meal.I was initially put off that it was not available on Amazon Prime and I’d have to pay shipping, but after tasting it I realize it is a bargain even with shipping (I think I paid about $10). The 1/2 gallon jug takes up little space in our second fridge, and our first jug kept well for several months without losing any taste (keep it tightly closed). If you think this is still more than you can handle, split your order with a friend or two. I guarantee you will find yourself ordering more.

This stuff is awesome
I just made a batch of the best hot and sour I've ever had, barring none. When I first read the reviews, I figured all these great reviews were hype. Boy, was I wrong. At nine dollars a quart at the restaurant, I needed to get my hot and sour soup fix cheaper. This concentrate is the answer. With all the stuff I put into it, including sliced black wood ear mushrooms and dried tiger lily shoots, we ended up with 21/2 quarts of leftovers from one recipe. I did it in the Instant Pot in 7 minutes with a natural release. Prep was time consuming but worth the effort. There's a recipe at Starport's site but you can play with it to suit your taste. If you love hot and sour soup, this is the answer.

Best ever!
I almost never write reviews - but this soup absolutely blew me away! I search periodically for new hot and sour mixes/powders/etc to see if I can find a way to enjoy it at home without bothering with takeout - it is my favorite food of all time. The one I liked the best (though not authentic) was the Swanson broth....but then they discontinued it and I was heartbroken! Now I've stumbled upon this one, and I'll never look back. It tastes so authentic to the restaurant version it's unbelievable! If you're a hot and sour soup fiend like me this is a must-purchase. Don't let the shipping cost stop you. It's 100% worth it and it will last you a long time. I will say that the 10 to 1 ratio was delicious, but I will add a bit more water next time...maybe 13 or 14 to 1.I will reorder forever and ever - as long as it stays available. :)

It's very good and tastes great.
This is very concentrated, and spicy. Without adding or doing much it tastes like how and sour soup from a Chinese restaurant. The 10 to 1 dilution ration seemed extreme, until trying it out. 10 to 1 works best for me. While it tastes like hot and sour soup as a broth of course it helps to add mushroom and any other vegetable or meat you'd like to turn it into a real soup (as opposed to a broth). This is helpful to me, and will be purchased again.

Very good ! Absolutley worth a try if you love Hot & Sour soup
I've now tried pretty much all the various Hot and Sour soup mixes I could find (including all the mixes here on Amazon). I'm taking the time to review this one because it's very, very good. This one makes soup that really does taste like what I get from the Oriental carry-outs. I DON'T have to add vinegar or white pepper or anything to tweek the flavor. What you might find you'll need to add (if you're trying to replicate what you get from a restaurant) is a little corn starch to thicken the texture, but flavorwise this one's got it down ! Of course if your really after the restaurant soup, you'll want to add tofu, mushrooms/fungi, bamboo shoots and egg too. The ratio mix on this is 1 part mix to 10 parts water - I'm still playing around with this. Might try some broth, might up the ratio a bit for an even stronger flavor, but as is, this pretty darn good and convenient. Finally, the label recommends refrigeration after opening (FYI) and I really wish this didn't involve such $HIPPING COST$ ! Certainly worth trying if you like Hot & Sour soup.

Authentic flavor
This tastes just like the soup you buy in chinese restaurants. Yes, it's very expensive, but this is concentrated and lasts me a long time. I make soup with tofu, carrots, mushrooms, and peas. It keeps for about a year in the refrigerator. You can use this to flavor stir fry's as well.
