Fun and suspenseful action filled graphic novel!
This was an excellent debut graphic novel featuring a cast of compelling, multi-dimensional women of color trying to survive an inhospitable alien world and facing both dire personal and global potential consequences. A scientific mission has brought a team of scientists to explore the planet Eleos, where a rare flower is suspected to hold the key to a deadly tumor claiming lives back on earth. After disaster strikes, two remaining crew members must survive the volatile planet and one another in a race to secure the only space on a rescue pod to return home. The artwork integrated a beautiful play of warm and cool tones to help bring the sci-fi landscape to life, and the characters were impressively multi-dimensional, both sympathetic and despicable, despite minimal dialogue. An incredibly enjoyable read!

A tense action-filled read!
Black Star is about two women doing whatever they can to complete a mission and survive. A tense, quick read, the limited dialogue really makes the story go by very quickly, adding to the tension. Keeps you guessing who will prevail until the very end!

Nail-biter!
Great story line! It’s not what you think it is. A suspenseful thriller on an alien planet but will the right side win??

Good Story, Bad Words - Best for Older Readers
I purchased this book for my 12-year old son, after seeing it on a tv personalities' page where her son was reading it. Our sons are close in age, so I looked into the book as I am always looking for books with African-American characters and by Black authors that boys will enjoy. This book meets all of those, AND its Sci-fi! Should have been perfect, definitely would have been. However, there was quite a bit of profanity. Also, some violence, graphic, but not gory. My son is who actually brought it to my attention. he overall liked the story, but was put off by the language. I think this book is targeted for older audiences, teens and up. I purchased without doing my research unfortunately.

A stellar book
Fantastic read!! I actually had to laugh at myself at one point because of how comically fast I was flipping the pages to see what would happen next! If there’s a sequel I’ll be first in line to read it.

Great premise
Loved the premise of the story, however the execution was a little lacking for me. Didn't love the art style and the panels are kind of incoherent with out much flow.
