Natural Histories: Postcards of 60 Rare Book Illustrations

Lots of very beautiful illustrations but I just wish they'd brightened up the backgrounds a bit more. Most of the cards have muddy backgrounds (yellowed or grayish) upon which the illustration doesn't pop as much as it could. I guess they might have been trying to maintain that antiqued look but for me it's just a bit of a letdown imagining how much more vibrant the cards could have appeared. And some of the cards do have whiter backgrounds, so I wonder why the decision wasn't made to make the set more uniform (and clearly I would have preferred for the uniformity to have been achieved by making all the backgrounds whiter, haha).But I do really enjoy the set and I love how versatile it is. All you have to do is find out if someone's into birds, fish, insects, etc. and you'll probably have a card they'd really enjoy finding in their mailbox.

I send a postcard to my grandson every week. HE LOVES these and keeps them in a little bag in his toy box. They are very unusual drawings of all kinds of critters, colorful, and standard size so you can send them with a postcard stamp. If you are a faraway Grandma like me, sending postcards is a great way to be in touch with the littles. These are lovely.A+

Beautiful, high quality postcards. I was very impressed with the quality of the card stock used and the printing of these postcards. The box they are housed in is also nicely constructed and the postcards are separated by type of animal with little tabs. I love them so much that now I don't want to use them!

The card stock is very good and the box itself is nice with a textured kind of paper. There are tabs inside for the different catagories so thats also nice. I would say about 70 percent of the images are quite wonderful and the rest are ok. I keep the really good ones for special uses and the so so ones I use even to just write notes or lists to myself.

Stunning, simply stunning. I'm going to keep a few select ones for myself for their beauty, & matt-frame one as a gift, but almost any one of them would be worthy of being framed & hung for art work. Good, thick cardstock too. A bargain, for the quality you get for the price.

These are beautiful and fun. I like to look through them and try to figure out which friend would appreciate a particular card more (still looking for someone who will love the spider post card). These are very high quality and beautifully packaged.

I love most of the pictures but some are so yellowish brown that they are unattractive, plus they all arrived curved and need to be flattened. I would not buy them again.

Beautiful postcards. Wish they were a bit bigger as they're a bit small for writing on and sending people but they'd go well in an envelope. They're still very nice and interesting to look at. I love reading about the natural world and looking at old naturalists' illustrations.

ich habe nichts an den Karten auszusetzen - das Material ist sehr gut und die Motive sehr schön gewählt. Wie in jedem Set gibt es Karten, die einer mehr oder weniger zusagen, weil man ja manche Tiere auch lieber mag als andere. Das spricht aber nicht gegen das Set - für jede Karte findet sich eine Person, die sich darüber freut wenn sie im Postkasten liegt.

観賞用＆人に出す用として6月末に1686円で購入。6つのジャンル（魚、軟体動物（貝など）、虫、爬虫類、鳥、哺乳類）×10種類の60枚入り。パッケージは丈夫な箱で、本型ではなくポッキーの箱のように上がパカっと開くタイプ。すべての絵柄を気に入ったわけではありませんが、1枚あたりの値段を考えれば十分お得です。・紙質しっかりしている。海外への郵送にも耐えられると思います。・絵柄面について少し光沢あり。「博物画」でググると出てくるような、いろんな種類の蝶などが並べられたり一つの動物の外観と細部が並んでいるタイプの絵はざっと数えて20枚ほどあり、単体のポートレートも多く、背景が描かれているものもあります。パッケージはかわいい感じですが怖い顔のアンコウや、ダニがびっしり並べられたもの、ハエなど、人を選ぶものも少しだけあります。自分はこの手のものは平気なのですが、前述の集合絵がもっと欲しかったです。印刷も特に問題ありませんが、何枚かに機械でカードを送り出す際についたと思われる傷がありました。よく見ないとわからないレベルなので実際に送るぶんには気になりません。・宛名面について光沢なし。切手の枠、宛名用の罫線、絵柄の説明が印刷されています。
