Bulk Gourmet Emporium Carnaroli Marinara Risotto in Glass Jars 3 x 200g (600g in total)

The product is easy to prepare and meets all of the makers claims. Found it a little bland but one can always 'tweak to taste'. Whilst I would buy again, I am encouraged to strike out alone and try preparing my own risotto recipes from scratch. Very quick delivery and sensible packaging.

I like risotto but I do know it can be difficult to cook and you can end up with a mushy mess, this however works a treat. Its very easy to cook and the additional spices and flavours cook well with the rice. From a single jar you do get a lot if its one person eating then you will only need a small amount of risotto to get a good portion. Just about the only thing I didnt like was I found all the herbs a bit overpowering in taste and it spoilt it a bit. I would have preferred it to be a bit more bland and I could flavour to my liking but thats just a personal taste about this otherwise its very nice.

There are 3 x 200g jars of Risotto Alla marinara delivered in a very compact cardboard box. The ingredients are: Carnaroli rice 85%, tomato 3,5%, onion, salt, leek, olive oil, maltodextrin, extract for stock, yeast extract (contains GLUTEN), oregano 0,7%, parsley, garlic 0,4%, basil 0,7%.Nutritional information per 100g: Energy 1424kj /336kcal, Fat0.9g of which saturates 0.2g; Carbohydrates73g, of which sugars 3.3g; Protein 7.2g; Fibre 3.4g; Salt 2.7g.The instructions are to put 750ml of water in a pan and bring to the boil, then add the 200g jar of risotto and cook for around 20 minutes. This makes 2 to 3 servings.Yes this is a very handy amount of risotto and it is very easy to make but I'm sorry, i just don't like this product. The flavour is overwhelmingly bitter tomato. Any hint of basil or garlic is overpowered by the tomato, i know Marinara is tomato flavour and I usually enjoy it but this just isn't nice and gave me indigestion. The price at time of review is £15.60 which is over priced in my opinion and i don't think they are value for money you can make a much tastier risotto with fresh ingredients for a fraction of this price.

Even after following the cooking instructions, I found these to be quite hard and difficult to eat and far too salty for my taste. Very disappointed.

These little jars of ready-to-cook risotto are surprisingly tasty and easy to cook.I have to admit I was even lazier than the instructions suggested and popped the contents of the jar, 750ml of water and a knob of butter into a lidded pan and cooked this in the oven. The risotto came out perfectly: the rice was creamy, the herbs and dried tomatoes added real depth and interest to the flavour. I would say that the risotto as it comes in the jar is undersalted, you do need to add some stock or salt (or plenty of cheese) but it's actually a real relief to have a mix like this that needs to have salt added to taste!The mix is vegan friendly and really handy to have in the store cupboard for a quick meal if you have nothing else in or limited preparation time. I wouldn't necessarily use this every time I want risotto - risotto is relatively straightforward to make - but it is a great, tasty standby, so I am really glad it comes in packs of three.

This risotto is a top quality product. The rice itself is plump and full of flavour. All of the added ingredients make this a good restaurant quality dish by simply following the instructions and in 20 minutes you have either 2 starter portions or a main sized portion. The 3 jars in the box each contain a 200g amount of the dry ingredients. You can add your own finishing touches such as a portion of butter/Parmesan cheese etc. The pricing is very good for the overall quality of the dish. Very pleased with this product.
