Great Color, But Drying
I was previously using Loreal Preference Lightest Ash Blonde, but I wanted to get away from dyes with PPD; I'm fairly certain that it was hair dye that caused my mother to get Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. I read a lot about it and there is a possible connection between PPD and that particular cancer. I tried a few "natural" dyes, but they were either difficult to use (you had to mix them in a bowl and apply them with a brush), or they didn't even begin to cover greys. I found that the ash blondes were too ashy, and appeared grey. I came across Hair Wonder, and the color shown on the box looked just like my color, so I took a chance and bought two boxes. Although the Loreal color that I use is ash blonde, on me it comes out a bit more of a natural blonde, and not so ashy. It turned out that this Hair Wonder Light Blonde WAS almost exactly like the Loreal color I was using. No one even noticed that I had changed hair color brands, it came out that close to the Loreal color. The formula is VERY thick, and when you add the color and the developer together in the application bottle, you have to shake it for a VERY long time. I have thick hair that's below my shoulders, and two bottles was plenty to do my entire head, with some left over. If you have VERY long hair, you might need three bottles. It rinsed out well, and it really looks great and covered ALL of my grey. And unlike other "natural" colors, it lasts. Now for the bad news: It totally dried out my hair. In fact, although my hair doesn't look damaged, it has a damaged feel to it. This dye definitely did some kind of damage. Even weeks later it still feels like straw. Perhaps because I used it over the existing Loreal color. However, as crazy as it sounds, I will probably continue to use Hair Wonder, because it's the closest to the color that I want, and I don't have to worry about PPD. The price is also a negative. I'm used to spending less than $10 on Loreal, and Hair Wonder costs twice that.
