Outstanding novel - a must read for everybody
I have to admit, I was not familiar with the history of Biafra/Nigeria before, so I chose this book simply because it had countless positive reviews and there was a cheap second-hand copy available. It is hard to write about it without using too many cliches, but to keep it short, it is a really powerful story which changes the way you look at Africa or the stories you hear about Africa or in fact - any other smaller, poorer not so well-known nations of the world. It is quite an achievement from a novel but it is also really fascinating (the first half of the book is especially entertaining, after that it becomes a harder read), with living and breathing characters and without being too didactic. Highly recommended book.

I love this book and had given my copy to a daughter in law as this edition appears to be out of print. I bought second hand as the seller had the same edition. It is pretty near perfect, so thank you. It arrived quickly.

Fascinating and Absorbing
A really fascinating book about The Biafra War told through the lives of three very different characters. Ugwu a poor boy from a village who goes to work as a houseboy for a University Professor. Olanna, from a wealthy family in Lagos who lives with the Professor. Richard a quiet, shy Englishman who is in a relationship with Olanna’s twin and identifies himself as Biafra. The tragedy of the war is well told through the stories of each of the three main characters. It was painful to learn how the thoughtlessness of the British led to this sad and unnecessary war.
