Supplement to The Diary of Anne Frank
This is a necessary addition to "Anne Frank - The Diary of a Young Girl" because there are references to stories and fablies in this book from which Anne Frank, in her diary, refers. This is a book worth reading, because it not only answers any questions the reader of the original book might have, but it contains stories reflecting Anne's outlook on life. Anne, in spite of her captivity (hiding from the Nazis), was still an optimist and looked upon humanity as mostly good.In the first part of the book, you have the impression that the entires should be in her main diary itself, because it tells of her situation, her hiding, and her impressions of her fellow "captives" and how they react in life. For example, in rationing food, one person is greedy and wants the most, or the best, for himself. Some are selfish and self centered in other ways, and the only person Anne really respects is her own father, for he is the most understanding of her, and possibly her boyfriend, Peter. A young child, especially a girl, can see a lot in adults that they cannot see in themselves. Anne seemed to be the most aware of what was happening around her. She was, aside from her father, the most mature person there. The book then proceeds to telling stories, then fables, up to an unfinished tale, "Cady's Life."This stories, surprisingly, do not reflect gloom and doom of the real world (except Cary's Life, in some parts, telling of the Nazis) but convey the message of doing good and giving everything you have, getting much more in return, though the latter must not be the motive. A fairy inherits a large sum of money, but gives it all away withing a year to the needy, but is revered by them forever afterward. A girl who loved and cared for her grandmother then loses her, but the grandmother then beomes her guardian angel. Other tales involve animals, still others involve teaching a lesson in life, and others tell you not to be obsessed with fame and fortune, for they are not what they seem. None of them end tragically. This shows Anne's observation of life, her maturity, and her optimism towards humanity. This was definitely very challenging for Anne, with death and destruction hovering over her, surrounded by seemingly unpleasant people, except her father and boyfriend, though there were people trying to hide her that show her compassion. This is a lesson to anyone reading this book. If Anne can have a good attitude, despite her present situation and what was going to happen to her (she was captured by the Nazis and put into a concentration camp, where she died of typhus), then perhaps other people in not so bad surroundings can handle what life gives them, good or bad.

Beautiful Book
This is a beautiful book that is well compiled! The binding is glue so the pages are loose after one reading but that does not change the quality of the edition.
