Super nice and MADE IN USA
(Note: I've worked as a professional dog trainer for the past 15 years.) YAY!!! This leash just WORKS in so many ways!!! Hooray and hats off to Mendota. (I bought three, I liked the first one so much: 1/2" x 4', 1/2" x 6', and 3/8" by 4'.) Here are some of the things I love about this leash: the rope is not stiff and scratchy (comfier for me AND my dog, as well as being easier on his coat), the fastenings seem really secure, the slider that keeps the collar part from slipping open is reassuringly snug, the leashes come in various widths and lengths, and they color options are pretty nice--something for everyone. I have a 50-pound Spaniel who can pull like the cutest freight train you've ever seen. Harnesses are problematic because (a) they alter his natural gait, and (b) they almost immediately create terrible knots in his "armpits." Martingale collars work pretty well with my dog, but he has wiggled around a couple of times when other people held his collar incorrectly and they basically let my dog slip out of his collar--YIKES!!! So, with some misgivings, I tried a slip lead (because he uses these in shows and rarely pulls in that context). The problem with slip leads, of course, is they just get tighter and tighter around your pulling dog's neck--not good at all!! Anyway, long story short, he seems to understand that when he's on a slip lead, he isn't supposed to pull--he simply doesn't do it. Would I recommend a sliplead for every dog? Of course not. But in the right setting, right dog, right handler, right positive training, right practice, etc., it can be a great tool. AND--it's great for those quick trips out into the yard at night while checking for critters! LAST POINT: the length INCLUDES THE NECK LOOP ("collar" part of the leash). so the 4' lead is really pretty short and will keep your dog right by your side. While you might want this in certain contexts, for everyday walking, I'd recommend the 6' length. And as far as width goes, the thicker the rope the fewer pounds per square inch of pressure on your dog's neck--so, the wider the rope, the comfier for your dog. The 1/2" width is a great middle-ground type width for the vast majority of dogs. A++ to Mendota Products for getting this product really right, and doing it in the USA! These leashes are FAR better than any other rope-type lead I've seen, which might look cool but aren't as functional as leashes.

Great slip lead
We use these to walk dogs at the animal shelter. Very sturdy, nicely made, easy to use. I also like how it’s round and not flat. I find it easier and more comfortable to hold than my own dog’s leash at home. The sliding piece that adjusts the slip size starts out a little stiff, but it breaks in pretty quickly and then it’s easier to adjust.

Love this brand!
It’s literally the best kind of leash out there. Durability on point. It’s not thick, which I like, but still does what you need it to do without it being bulky. Colors are true to description. Absolutely no complaints. Will purchase again.

Stretches after a bit.
Over the past couple of years, I’ve come into contact with a number of different types of dogs with different temperaments- some have a harder time on the leash than others. In the past, when I have brought dogs to obedience training, I have had leads like this used and recommended to me for this type of animal. Having had great success when using the slip lead with a Catahoula mix I worked with two years ago, I bought this lead (in raspberry) for a 60lb Husky-Shepard mix that I am currently working with. While she is a very strong girl, she seems to know her limits better on this leash- I will say though that with her long fur and her very tiny head, she has slipped out of this once when she was not also wearing her collar. I now have to wrap it around in front like a muzzle, simply because she occasionally becomes a danger to herself when pulling at the leash.Since beginning training with the leash, she has gotten better knowing her boundaries. However, the leash is also beginning to show wear and tear. The raspberry coloring is only the outer section of a rope, and it has become loose and stretched over the rope core. I’ve also found that the leather tab to keep the noose closed is more loose than it originally was, and slips much more easily. This also allows her more purchase on the line and for her to potentially get free. For the price, this is a good training leash- I do think though that if you have a big or strong dog, you might want to purchase a different, more heavy duty lead.

Works great for a figure-8 slip lead/head collar
I have a dog that seems to forget how to walk on leash when excited and this leash makes it easy to change it over to a head collar when needed. The leash holds up well to rain and washing when needed. The handle is a little too big for me, but it is still quite comfortable.

nice soft collar/lead combo
I've seen these for years and decided to try one. Our new rescue dog has been wearing a lead in the house to provide a quick way to get hold of her while we are getting used to each other. The 4 foot length does not drag behind a medium size dog like a longer lead would. I actually ordered two of these, one 4 foot and one 6 foot. The shorter one doubles as a loin lead [placed around the dog's flanks in addition to the main neck lead for two-handed walking of really bad "pullers"] The rope material is soft and nice on her neck and on my hands. I find that flat nylon webbing leads cut into my hands painfully, and never use one w/o gloves. The soft round rope that Mendota uses is much more comfortable. Other reviewers mentioned that the rope gets snagged easily which I have found as well. If this is bothersome you might not like this product. For me, not a deal breaker.

Wonderful size and length but already fraying.
Purchased and used for a month. Love that it doesn't have stretch but is already fraying :( I use only to walk my dog (she doesn't chew or anything) but the handle is already going, not great for the price.

Excellent Customer Service! Good quality leash
Always liked the thickness and comfort when using the leash but after getting the 2nd (3/8 width 5” and 6” long) product with loose leather tab- frustration creeped in. It’s for a small puppy (10lbs) that pulls and having rubber band won’t even hold its place. Before returning the 2nd time, I reached out to CS and they’ve replaced it with thankfully a way better product! Now, I’m happy I reached out and gotten the quality I expected.
