NICE FOR REAL WHO FANS BEAUTIFUL GLOSSY PHOTOS AND PAGES......
this is a really nice 50th ann book the second of wich i got in the last 2 weeks, i prefer the first one ( ben marshels) to this one BUT i read a lot of mat snows stuff in uk mags like mojo and classic rock so i sprung for this and i am glad i did, it is a nice hardcover edition with a large hole engraved in the middle of the front of the book wich is where the classic 1965 shot of the band members are shown, there are loads of photos within these pages some i have seen and some i have not seen but the first book by ben marshel WITH THE HELP of roger and pete is the better of the 2 books marking the 50th ann of the who, anyway regardless this book is loaded with awesome stories and events that took place from the beggining to current day who with roger and pete, im a who freak when it comes to the 60s and 70s but i felt the last amazing record was face dances in 1981, if you are as much of a who fan as i then i am sure you will love this book with its glossy pages and photos, there are so many who books out there now but this one and ben marshels that where just released are the 2 best who reads to come out in a long time!!!!!!! to bad there was not an awesome 5 cd who box set for the bands 50th this year, i do like the so far 3 vinyl 45 replica uk singles boxes that did come out this year though...............

A bargain at under $7.50
On the plus side, this hardcover book is currently selling for under $7.50 here on amazon. That's less that you'd pay for a magazine like Uncut or Mojo on the news stand, which have run special issues on the Who.On the negative side, make no mistake, despite the $40 price printed on the back cover this is a budget-quality book like you would find in the bargain book aisle at Barnes and Noble. For fans who have followed the Who since the 1960's, there's really nothing here that hasn't already been covered in the several other books and magazines about the Who, in the DVDs documenting the band's history, or the booklets for the various deluxe CD reissues over the past decades. It's best suited for casual fans who have never read anything about the band in the past. It's filled with pictures and the photo quality is generally pretty good, although some pictures look slightly blurred like they have been copied several times. Some of the chapters have titles such as: "Year Zero!"; "Mods!"; "Far Out!"; "Quad!", "Burnout!". After seeing about the third chapter title with the unnecessary !!!!! exclamation points attempting to generate some excitement, this reminded me of some of the tabloid headlines you see in checkout lines at the grocery store. At under $7.50, the cost is so low that it's definitely a low-risk purchase and there's more than $7.50 of value here. It's OK, but the several special magazine issues about The Who that were issued in recent years by Uncut and Mojo seem more interesting to me, and I decided to give away this book to a friend.

Better than the other one
Unlike the other reviewer here, I think this is superior to Ben Marshall's The Who 50 Years. They're both good, but this one has more comprehensive coverage of the last twenty-five years of the band. Ben Marshall's skips right over the QUADROPHENIA tours of 1996 and 1997, for example, while Mat Snow gives those tours ample coverage. Those are the first Who tours I was fortunate enough to witness. They were a rebirth of the band, being their first tours with Zak Starkey. The addition of Zak Starkey on drums was just what they needed, and The Who remains an incredibly potent, dynamic live force to this very day thanks in no small part to his contribution. Thank you Mat Snow for a wonderful book. In the studio or on the stage, The Who are the best rock band ever.

Can't go wrong here
Loved the picts and stories in this book. I bought a couple of copies for my family who were kind enough to get us tickets to the show in Glasgow, Scotland on April 7th. The show was amazing and having the book to look at afterward made it pretty special. Price was great, too. Nice glossy pages, bright cover. Printed in China was the only bummer.

This is a decent book but there's nothing here a hardcore Who fan hasn't seen before. I bought it for the very low discounted price.

Good book but ripped of by cost and a sticky mess on the cover.
Book is what I expected although having paid Β£25 for it; annoying that is had a Β£9.99 sticker in the front. Annoyingly this is a present for a birthday and Iβve tried to get the sticker off, leaving a sticky patch.
